Movie #2055 "Nightmare Alley" (TCM) --- I saw this on TCM recently, knowing that Bradley Cooper is doing a redo of it, so I wanted to someday be able to compare the two. The TCM speaker introducing the film said that Tyrone Power really worked at getting the rights to the film --- he really loved the story and was very proud of it when he was done. I would imagine Bradley Cooper would see it as a great vehicle to show off an actor's talent. Anyway, The plot here is very involved because it deals with a guy who works his way up through carney life, from assistant, to mind reader, and then down to geek. It is the rise and fall of a flim flam artist. He learns the con game and is pretty good at it for a while --- until he meets up with a formidable opponent. I heard they changed the ending in the remake, so not sure how it will end up --- this one had a pretty up ending. I'd give this a 4 for the interesting plot, and Tyrone Power is a wonder to watch on screen. He was usually a pretty- boy actor who always got the girl and never had to work really hard to get her! This seemed a different film for him so I'm glad he got to do it.
