Movie #2037 "Our Christmas Journey" (Hallmark) This movie stands out because it deals with a child on the autism spectrum --- and a mother who is used to homeschooling and taking care of him but finds he wants to strike out on his own since he is now 17 --- and a sister who feels she has always been in the background ---- and an ex who up until now has been in the background. The ex finds a place for the boy, much to the mother's dislike, and convinces the family to celebrate Christmas there --- without spending much time with the boy, but more hovering next-door in a motel and watching from afar. I liked the storyline very much because it was different from the others, and it took its time developing the story line and the characters, esp. the autistic boy who doesn't speak, well, he has his own way of communicating. It was a nice job showing the subject from all angles --- the overprotective mom, the autistic kid who wants to go it alone, the daughter trying to deal with having a brother who gets more attention than she gets, a place that offers such a nice program for the autistic children, and even a family of two that is trying to deal with the death of one of its members. I'd give it a 4 and recommend it.
