Movie #2189 "How Do You Measure a Year?" - well, this was cute and it had some poignant moments - it is a short documentary that a father puts together full of questions and answers of his daughter on her birthdays from age 2 to age 17. The poignancy is in bits and pieces, and there are some cute and sometimes laughable moments. But what I thought it was lacking was a significance --- the biggest one I saw is that she is going off to college and they have a short goodbye scene. That was a very private, albeit universal moment and then it ended. I liked this, and it was cute and universal in some moments, but it doesn't seem to have as significant of a theme as the others, or what you'd expect in a film that would be nominated for an academy award , I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5

From the time she was two-years-old and until she turned 18, they had a ritual: Dad asked (and filmed), and Ella answered. What do you dream about? What scares you? What do you think about our relationship? This is a little story about growing up and the love between father and daughter.
