Movie #2184 "Marcel the Shell with Shoes on" (Amazon Prime) This movie is nominated for an AA for full feature animation, and it was really cute -------but I felt it was long because the cuteness for me ran out after a while. Of course, time should be allotted to marvel at "how the heck is this being done? " and time to laugh at many of the scenes ---- but the theme is evident from the start (how we take the little things in life for granted?) and it moves from one situation to the next v-e-r-y-----s-l-o-w-l-y....... I'm not sure kids would have the stamina to follow it, but it would be interesting to know if they do. Also, the sound was garbled a bit --- not sure if on purpose or not --- Jenny Slate's voice as Marcel is taking on the sound of a very little object, so maybe that part was on purpose, but there were moments we wanted it to be clearer. The film really is very clever, and I valued that a lot, but I just thought it would have been so much better if edited more and more compact in its presentation. I'd give it 3.5 out of 5.
