Movie #2183 "80 for Brady" (movie theater) Ready for some fluff watching, esp. this weekend and next week, with the Super Bowl on everyone's mind? you might want to check this one out --- It's actually a capable comedy in the hands of academy awards winners --- who knew? Fonda, Field, Moreno and Tomlin portray Megafans of Tom Brady , and their one wish is granted --- to see him play in the Super Bowl (2017). It takes a lot of energy, organization, knowledge, etc that 80+ women (oops, Field keeps reminding us she isn't there yet!) have a bit of trouble handling, but therein lies some of the humor --- that, and watching the hutzpah they display on this GREAT adventure --- maybe the last for one of them. The plot has so many implausible moments, but they don't come across as "silly" because of the way the women handle them --- and juxtaposition following one or two of the "girls" at a time keeps the story moving --- It's amazing how many lines they memorized here for each of their parts, while giving the impression they are really IN the moment with each other ---- perhaps some improvising was used? But they certainly seem self assured and serious about the comedy (if that makes sense) --- And they bring Tom Brady along for the ride --- the film has him reacting to a big speech Lily Tomlin makes to him, and he comes across NOT as a football player but an actor --- and he does the same in another scene later with her --- perhaps a new career for him now that he appears to be really retired? I give this a solid 4 and recommend it. The place was packed when we went at 10:30 on a Wednesday morning, with a bus dropping off people in front of the ticket booth! What a hoot!
