Movie #1487 "The Greatest Showman" -- if you like musicals, you will love this film because the music is energetic, all the performers are passionate, the story is easy to follow and has some good conflict , and it is nicely photographed and choreographed. If it bothers you that people in mid sentence start to sing, don't bother seeing this film. One thing I have to say is I think out of all the singing, there was only a very small number of ballads that slowed the momentum down. I have to admit the songs started blending into each other except for three show stoppers: "The Greatest Show," " Rewrite the Stars," and the academy- award- nominated one, "This Is Me" --- I have seen now all the academy- award -nominated films, and the song here is the best, bar none. It speaks for all the people P.T. gathers in his "show," it speaks for all the women in the me, too movement, and it speaks for all the people being hassled by the Trump administration -- it is all inclusive, topical, and just a wonderful song that is the focus of the film, so it should win! And it certainly helps that it was very moving, the way it was presented. It's unfortunate that the film has had controversy following it ---- P.T. is not the hero that this film makes him out to be. That's original! When did we ever take a film at its word???? But I went in with the controversy in mind, and I really didn't see the film was about that. It shows a human being who makes mistakes, and who maybe could change his ways once he can see how destructive he's been ---- yeah, maybe P.T. never made that change, but I can see why the film went in that direction --- what a bummer if it didn't end the way it did!!!! So I was entertained, informed and happy after seeing the film, so I would recommend it to people who would like to see a musical --- it was fun and I give it 4 stars out of 5.
