Movie #1486 ........................."Phantom Thread"

Movie #1486 "Phantom Thread" is the think piece of the 2017 batch of films because I saw it about a week ago, and I have  been thinking about it ever since.  There's quite a bit involved in the film, even though the pacing is very slow.  There's a power struggle here, and it was intriguing to watch and study  how it all ends.  There's much to like in the film--- the sets, the costumes, the cinematography, and the acting.  You find out what a famous designer's life is on a daily basis, how he meets his muse, and how she wants more than just to be his muse.  So the film is very topical, making comments on the women's movement in that time period, but also in our time, as well.  If this is Daniel Day Lewis' last film, it's a pity, because he  totally embodies this Mr. Woodcock's character from beginning to the ending of the film, and the women are quite formidable sparring partners --- one his wife, the other his sister, and they give powerful performances, as well.  The film in style is quite Hitchcockian to me, and it was fun watching that style in a today's film.  It isn't for everyone --- I'm afraid it might be too slow and too "out there" for many viewers, but I found the story quite ambitious, entertaining, and challenging.  I give it 4 stars out of 5.
