Movie #1476 "Call Me By Your Name" is the over-rated movie of the year, to me, like "Moonlight" last year --- both films were liked more by the critics than the audience. They are both good films, and yes, they do break barriers on the subject of homosexuality, but otherwise, the two films didn't seem to stand out for me above all the other films I have seen this year. I went in with expectations that this would be a quality film, doing so well at Cannes, and other festivals, and I left thinking: boy, that last moment was probably the best I have seen this year, for a moment, but the rest seemed long, dragged out, and muddled by a lot of extraneous action. The acting was well done , and there were some beautiful shots (contrary to how I felt about Moonlight) , but I wasn't all that excited about the film. It was just good, 3.5 out of 5 to me --- with a wonderful last moment, and some very good, strong acting jobs by Armie, Timothy, and Michael Stuhlbarg. The young girl was good, too. The story we've seen before, but usually between a guy and a girl, so this film turns that upside down, and it should be seen, if just for that. But I am not convinced it will be best picture for that.
"CALL ME BY YOUR NAME" 2017 R rated 2 hours and 12 mins
