Movie #1483 ........................."The Dinner Game"

Movie #1483 "The Dinner Game" -- French with english subtitles -- what a gem of a film, only runs 1 hour and 20 minutes with a very tight script.  I hate when a story is overly exaggerated to the point of being silly, but this actually made sense all the way through --- it is truly about a nerdy guy who is invited to one of those dinner con games, where guests are asked to bring an idiot!  This to-be guest makes objects like the Eiffel Tower out of matchsticks!  When something happens that the the inviter gets incapacitated and take take the nerd to dinner, he gets all that he deserves and more by spending time with the matchstick guy!  I chuckled several times, but I was most impressed with the witty script.  I recommend it if you are looking for a tease of a film --- this was a nice surprise.  4 stars out of 5.

" THE DINNER GAME"    1998       PG-13         1 hour and 21 minutes

Writer-director Francis Veber's clever comedy shadows a group of French intellectuals who gather each Wednesday night for a dinner game, in which the challenge is to bring along the most idiotic guest. Pierre (Thierry Lhermitte) thinks he's found a ringer in François (Jacques Villeret), a civil servant whose passion is making architectural models out of matchsticks. But Pierre gets more than he bargained for when François becomes his houseguest.
