Movie #410 ........................."Wish 143"

Movie #410 "Wish 143" was my very favorite live action short (oscar nominated for 2011) --- but it was a close race. This one had a little of everything --- a great premise: Make a wish foundation goes to this Irish lad of age 16 or 17? to ask what his wish is, and he says he wants to have sex before he dies (he has a tumor that is growing in his lungs -- the doctor keeps comparing it to fruit ---size of kiwi, then a peach, finally a grapefruit --- it breaks your heart) Make a wish can't do that, they say, and even his main mentor, a priest, says he can't help. The boy tries to leave the hospital but a busdriver won't let him on the bus with liquids "it's attached to my vein, for God's sake" he yells at him..........there are funny moments, there are teary, break-your-heart moments, a complete package here. And the young man and the priest give unforgettable performances here. I give it a 5. What a wonderful short film that does everything it needs to do, and more.
