Movie #3173 "Friends & Family Christmas" (Hallmark) -- this is a biggie this xmas season because it focuses on a lesbian relationship, one of the first, I think, that Hallmark is presenting, and I really enjoyed the film. I esp. liked the one woman, the hispanic, with the helicopter parents (well, at least the mom was ) --she's a photographer and decides to stay put for xmas because she wants to get this big deal and her boss feels she has to have a better resume, so she wants to work on it. Meanwhile, her dad's friend calls her dad and wants his daughter, who recently broke up with her partner. to not be all alone for xmas and he wants his daughter to meet up with her. Their first meet up was not cute, in that they seemed like oil and water. But then they made a deal to be each other's plus 1 at all the stuff their jobs expect them to be doing at xmas. That was the cute idea of the film. The rest is just doing the xmas stage business of going to parties, and festivities, taking pictures, etc. The other girl, the blonde, was closed off and kind of snooty through a lot of the film, but it was just an appearance, we learn, as the film progresses. She's just been hurt quite a bit , and she's a tad shy and awkward in social situations, so she grows throughout the film and becomes important to the other girl as a main support person for her and her work with photography. I liked that the treatment of the love story didn't change much because of the gender switch, and I was happy about that. I'd give this a 3.5.
