Movie #3170 "Going My Way" (TCM) In my opinion, you couldn't find a better movie to put you in the holiday spirit than this oldie, but goodie. I was going to catch up on more Hallmark movies last night, but I saw this was on, and there was no contest. Even though I have seen it way too many times, I watched it last night --- again, and delighted in all the moments I remember. For me to watch movies over again is an anomaly, so this ranks right up with the top 20 movies I have ever seen, for me to watch over and over. It's my go-to wrapping up christmas gifts movie --- and since there are less and less to wrap up these days, I was able to watch every minute more closely --- every look that Father Fitzgibbon gives to the young upstart Father O'Malley to create this wonderful character (who won an academy award for supporting actor, I might add --- he was only person ever nominated in both lead and supporting actor roles for the same movie -- they got rid of it after this movie). I laugh even when he enters the room, he's that cute and funny. And the songs, the whole story, the outstanding and emotional ending... well, I could go on and on as to reasons I would give it 5+ but if you haven't seen it yet, you are in for a treat! As old as it gets, it still works. (won AA for best picture, director, Crosby, Barry Fitzgerald, the song (Swingin' on a Star), film editing, and writing)
