Movie #1198 "I Give It A Year" is my kind of movie --- I laughed all the way through it. It's a romantic comedy but it turns the genre upside down ----the high point stands out in romantic comedy as one of a kind (this is my favorite genre so I try to see everything possible that is out there). The actors are capable, the script is a hoot, and it seems like they take what we expect and throw in the unexpected. For example, they get rid of the meeting, falling in love, becoming engaged, preparing for the wedding ---all in the credits and start with the actual wedding vows and throw in an off kilter scene, making it one strange happenstance and for there, they're off!!! All the problems a couple experiences in their first year ---- they only dated 7 months, and boy are they paying for that now, with families that don't jive, work schedules, old girlfriend (Anna Farris, nice turn for her), new client (the Mentalist guy, nice turn for him, too), best friend whom wife can't stand (Merchant, Gervais' partner), and throw it all together and it's one funny comedy that the critics evidently didn't get --- well, they are so hard on rom coms that I hardly check them out when it comes to this genre. Oh, it's raunchy in places (esp. one very funny charades scene with grandma) and it's terribly British, but it's fun and I recommend it as a turned upside rom com, with raunchiness on the side. I give it 4.5 out of 5.
