Movie #3415 "In the Shadow of a Cypress" (theatre) This is the second oscar-nominated animated short film I watched , and the characters all looked like flat stanleys to me --- didn't much care for the animation or the story --- no dialogue, so that didn't help. Man has PTSD (an overused ailment in my opinion, and used quite often just to get away with sowing things hat might not be happening --- and we the viewer have the figure out what's the real story. And that's what we had to do here --- daughter leaves after realizing she really can't help her dad --- a whale wishes up to the shore -- she tries to help her dad pull him back into the water so he can survive. Dad gets in a small motor boat and tries to drag it away to safety, but the rope snaps and breaks the motor. So agitated , he rows his boat to a houseboat he has at sea and stay there. Not sure why, but he finds himself needing help, but daughter can't get to him to help. So I was left with the question .....so what? What is the takeaway theme here? Some people with PTSD you can't help because they are too proud to ask for it? Maybe..... but I didn't like this one ---- too many moments not explained. I'd give it 2.5.
