Movie #3413 ........................."The Only Girl in the Orchestra" (theatre)

Movie #3413 "The Only Girl in the Orchestra" (theatre)  This is the 5th and final oscar-nominated short documentary that I saw at the theatre, and one I really enjoyed.  First female musician in 1966 for the NY Philharmonic had famous parents (both actors), and never wanted to be famous --- just to be one of the guys.  They didn't even have a bathroom for her to change in at the time.  This covers her beginning time with Leonard Bernstein at the helm, all the way to post retirement.  There were many speakers on her behalf, mostly former students. Her name is Orin O'Brien, and she played the double bass.  I really enjoyed her philosophy about playing the instrument, how to get along with all the men, how she never wanted to be in the limelight, etc.  The film was just a tad long, I felt.  I noticed it when some of her philosophy was repeated.  But , overall, I found this quite enjoyable.  I'd give it a 4.
