Movie #1574 ........................."What They Had"

Movie #1574 "What They Had" is the 4th movie I saw at the Chicago Film Fest (the last one I watched on the first day), and it was well played by heavy duty stars:  Blythe Danner, Hillary Swank, Michael Shannon, and Robert Forester.  We've seen the story already --- a relationship degenerates because the wife is suffering from alzheimer's and runs away from home unless her caretaker husband ties her to the bed.  Consequences?  Brother and Sister (Swank and Shannon) argue about what to do with the folks next.  Tough situation --- very awkward discussions that you really don't want to listen, but you think you should because it might happen to you and your family..... I have to admit that it was at times like watching the experiences that my brother and I had to go through.  And an even major subject it explores is the toll this whole experience has on the caretaker, in this case, their dad.  I would give it 4.5 for the competence of the film and for the truth it tells.  This is a tough one to watch!
