Movie #1569 ........................."An Acceptable Loss" (Pages on netflix)

Movie #1569 "An Acceptable Loss" (Pages on netflix) was the first movie I saw at the Chicago Film Festival last week, and it was the one 5 rating that  I saw.  Tense, highly topical, with a lot of twists and turns, the film had  an intriguing story line and strong  acting.  There was a Q and A afterwards and the lead guy who appeared to be following the lead girl (who was once working in the white house and now is an expert on national security policy at a university) were both cast against type to make a point.  She is African American, so being in such a high level of security job with Jamie Lee Curtis as first the V.P. and then the President, you can see how this film tries to make a point of the casting.  And the most important piece of casting is making a muslim the guy following the security lady.  I don't want to say much more on the story line, but it is tense all the way to the end, and it makes you wonder how decisions are made in national security, where there is no room for mistakes.   In addition, I enjoyed how beautifully the city of Chicago was filmed  and  howwell the film  used Chicago actors, esp. Alex Weisman, whom I have enjoyed watching on stage in Chicago (one show in particular with ohs theatre alum Amanda Drinkall) and recently on broadway in the Harry Potter play.  He plays a key role in the film, and it was so exciting to watch him perform so expertly; I was very  proud of his efforts.  This is one you want to see if it gets released into movie theaters, which I hope it does.

An Acceptable Loss (2018)

Former top U.S. security adviser Elizabeth "Libby" Lamm (Sumpter) is threatened by associates from her dark past including Rachel Burke (Curtis), a steely, commanding politician with an unwavering knack for achieving her goals. Colluding with Rachel is Adrian, an unyielding, patriotic chief of staff. Martin (Tavassoli) harbors another type of obsession with Libby in this story of betrayal and regret
