movie #3218 "The Last Repair Shop" (oscar-nominated short doc, theatre/you tube) In LA since 1959 there's a shop that repairs musical instruments and then given to needy kids, kids who can't afford the instruments. What a great idea! Theme: Not all broken items should be thrown out --- a popular attitude in our society. These instruments have mostly been made from scratch and there's such respect for them from those who repair them. They take 5 repair men/women and go through their history (they each narrate their story) and while they are talking the film shows the intricate work they are doing repairing the instruments --- in addition, all the while, gently music plays in the background. All lovers of music should see this film! I didn't write down the 4 or 5 types of instruments they show being worked on but I remember violin, a brass instrument, a wood wind, and piano. Very cool idea, but I felt the narration ran too long --- I would have wanted to know more about the history of the instrument and how it was being fixed instead of the history of the repair people. But that's probably just me. I'd give it a 4, but it is well filmed and might win!
"THE LAST REPAIR SHOP" 2023 39 mins might find it on prime video?
Tells the story of four unassuming heroes who ensure no student is deprived of the joy of music. It is also a reminder of how music can be the best medicine, stress reliever and even an escape from poverty.
