Movie #3205 ........................."Past Lives" (Amazon Prime, $5.99)

Movie #3205 "Past Lives" (Amazon Prime, $5.99)   This  is the only one so far (I have not seen "Zone of Interest" yet)  that I would question why it is on the Best Picture  list ---- somebody BIG must like it?  I'm not sure why.  Romance is a genre I can safely say I have seen a lot of, and yes, the ending is what can emotionally draw a romantic in, but up until the end, gosh, it's a tedious watch.  It is LONGGGGGGGGG, as life and  the time ticks away ---- long passages of just staring.  Not my kind of movie at all.  I really don't get the big deal about it.  I have seen a number of South Korean films that were better than this one, and they have never been nominated.  And what makes me angry, is that one of the most beautiful films this year, "The Color Purple" is not in this list and should be!!!!!!!  The people in here are awkward, quiet, reserved, non communicative, what's new?  I guess we are supposed to be able to relate to them because of that?  hmmmmm.  But what do you learn from that?  There were a few moments (like I said, the ending) that I valued, and so I would give it a 3 ---- it wasn't a 2, really.  But I don't recommend it.  Bottom line?  Life is too short to watch this long movie. (it isn't really that long in comparison to some others on this list, but......it seemed that way)

"PAST LIVES"   PG-13          2023       1 hour and 45 minutes

Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Noras family emigrates from South Korea.  Twenty Years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.   (maybe if they did, it would have been a better movie?)

Director:  Celine Song

Writer:  Celine Song

Actors:  Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, John Magaro

P.S.  I wonder how many pages this script was?
