Movie# 2040 ........................."Red Joan" (DVD)

Movie #2040 "Red Joan" (DVD) Well, this was a movie we missed at the Chicago film festival, and it was directed by Trevor Nunn (theatre guy) and starring Judi Dench, so it was a movie we wanted to see.    Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy it much.  It wasn't the subject matter (a mystery about a British spy and how she got involved in the whole spy ring, and she is now in her 80s and is finally found out) but the way the story was told that was not spectacular.  It seemed cloudy in parts,  edited in strange moments, and it clunked along giving the impression that the girls was doing the spying because she was in lust with this Russian guy.   She has a son, but it does little to going background of what she was doing from the end of WWII to the present --- one wonders how she lived her life during that time in between.  We don't recommend it.  I'd give it a very weak 3 and you don't need to bother to see it.
