Movie #847 "Quartet" I saw a while back (evidently in 2012), but I just noticed today that I didn't have a blog on it, so I thought I'd write one right now.......Anyway, I really liked this film. It was directed by Dustin Hoffman with attention to details and a love of the people and the story ---- you can tell, because the tone is set from the beginning. In any slower or dialogue-less scenes, there is a musical instrument playing, or a singer singing........all with more than enough ability. The talent in the film is of highest calibre, and you can tell that if you stay and read through the credits ---- every small part is filled with a person with pedigree from the stage or symphony ---- what a great idea on Hoffman's part. I enjoyed the 4 major leads ---- I have the highest respect for all of them in all the other venues that I've enjoyed them in, and there at the highest ability here. Loved the script, found the film very endearing and entertaining, and I highly recommend it.
Quartet2012PG-1399 minutes I gave this 4 out of 5 stars.
A trio of retired opera singers' annual celebration of Verdi's birthday sours when their estranged fourth member shows up but refuses to sing. Tensions rise and diva drama erupts -- will personal problems prevent the show from going on?
