Movie #1593 ........................."The Old Man and the Gun"

Movie #1593 "The Old Man and the Gun" is a don't- bother- kind -of -movie --- not unless you want to see Robert Redford in his supposedly last film (why didn't he direct it?  it's a messy job) It wants so much to be "Sting" (even has a nod to it a couple of times with a flick of the nose), but it fails ---- it's so dark, it's badly edited (camera moves around while people talking are not in the frame - huh?), it's s-l-o-w --- everyone just kind of says their lines and moves on because really the only reason the film is being made is to watch Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek bring magic to the screen --- they are good and it's too bad the film doesn't live up to their ability.  You think they should be able to save the film just on their acting alone, but no can do on this one --- darn!  We were expecting a cool heist.  3 for the effort but don't bother.

Movies #1592 .........................."Travelogue Tel Aviv " (short)

Movie #1592 "Travelogue Tel Aviv" was very boring with simple animation. It just took us through the city ---- that was about it.   Samuel Patthey put this together.  There were a few other films in the batch, but we had to leave to get to the next movie so I didn't watch them or critique them.  I would give this one 2 stars out of 5.

Movie #1591 ........................."Aqua Viva"

Movie #1591 "Aqua Viva" (animated short) was the third film of the "Let's Get Animated" series of films, and it was the longest of the ones we watched.  It was about a beauty spa, and the girl who runs it --- the film brings up just how important looks and primping are important in the world.  I gave it 3 stars out of 5.  Alex Lim Haas put the film together.  It wasn't memorable.

Movie #1590 ........................."Muteum" (animated short)

Movie #1590 "Musteum" (short) was a delight to watch  --- focused on a school field trip and how the kids were supposed to step in line and follow along behind the teacher ....that is until the teacher stops at the bathroom to have a cigarette --- then all hell breaks loose.  Hysterical.  I gave it 5 stars out of 5.  Aggie Zak Lee Lee took the helm on this one, the second animated film that we watched in the "Let's Get Animated" series.

Movie #1589 ........................."(oo)" - animated short

Movie #1589 (oo) (short) was the first of a batch of shorts at the Milwaukee Film Festival, entitled:  "Let's Get Animated " --- this movie centered on a sneeze --- using hyperbole, the film shows just far a sneeze will take someone.  I would give it 4 stars out of 5 ---- film was too long for me.

Movie #1588 ........................."The Bill" -- short

Movie #1588 "The Bill" (short) was the last film we saw in the Black Lens series, and I can't remember much about it at all.  Caralene Robinson put the film together (lots of women directors in this series) . In my notes I have that it was funny and took place in a restaurant -- I think neither the girl or the guy knew who was going to pay the bill.  But I'm not sure.  I didn't like it much because I gave it 3 stars out of 5.

Movie #1587 ........................."French Fries" - short

Movie #1587 "French Fries" (short) is the 5th film in the Black Lens series, and it had the longest, most involved story --- Wife goes to a motel to get some work done and her husband follows --- needless to say, not much is done --- and she's trying to lose weight while he is pounding down the french fries (thus, the title) --- it was one of the most universal of all the films, since it focused on man/woman relationship, and I'd give it 4 stars out of 5.  Janine Sherman Barrois put the film together.
