Movie #1625 ........................."Bohemian Rhapsody"

Movie #1625 "Bohemian Rhapsody" was very entertaining to me.  There's tons of music in it, and it follows a typical biopic route (on Freddie Mercury and the band members), and I found it quite informative on the group Queen, whose music I have enjoyed all these years, but a group I never got the chance to see in concert --- so it was kind of like seeing them in concert. Actually  the last 20 minutes in the film is a mini concert showing them performing at for  Live-Aid.    I have read that there are lots of liberties taken with the actual occurrences (the timing of his announcement of him dying, and also the ignoring of his bisexuality, etc.) but I felt the film succeeded in showing 1) the essence of the group, the ins and outs of creating together; 2)just how talented each of the members were, and 3) just how talented and complex Freddie's character was.  Malik is quite impressive, even when you know that he (nor anyone on this planet, probably) could not  replicate Mercury's voice, so it is Mercury singing in the film himself.  Still, every look, every guesture ---- Malik really took on this character, and he is very out there, so an actor could easily do this in a cartoonish way, but Malick doesn't, in my opinion.  I was very impressed, and this part should get an oscar nod for his work.  I know there's lots of controversy over the film, but I found it very effective in getting across a tribute to a very successful and talented  band and its lead singer. I give it 4 stars out of 5.

"BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY"    PG-13       2018

Born in Zanzibar, Farrokh Bulsara emigrated to England in his teens and formed the band Queen in 1970 under his new name, Freddie Mercury. This biopic charts the group's first 15 years, culminating with their Live Aid performance in 1985.
