Movie #1414 ........................."Bridget Jones's Baby"

Movie #1414 "Bridget Jones's Baby" -- yes, this is a continuation of the Bridget Jones' diary I and II films, the ones  that I found quite refreshing with  characters quite likable.  This seems to change the characters a bit --- of course, they have aged, but Bridget seemed mean (whispering caustic questions into her moderator's ear piece as to what nasty things to trick her interviewee into saying on camera). It's difficult to watch Renee when she looks so different --- with all the cosmetic word done on her face, she actually looks older ---too old, to have a child.  I have always liked watching her as an actress because I think she makes "out of the norm" choices as an actress (esp. in the "Jerry Maguire" film) and she continues to do that, but occasionally they seem out of place when the situations she is working with are kind of ho-hum, and Dempsey is so laid back.  Colin Firth, ordinarily, is stellar, but here, he plays the Darcy guy grumpy --- Really, the whole opening is predictable, grumpy and mean, and ho-hum; however, Emma Thompson adds a glimmer of hope so I continued to watch, and I'm kind of glad I did because the end was better than the beginning --- maybe the story stepped up, maybe there were more jokes, maybe the characters fell more into place and the story allowed them to do more than one dimensional kinds of things. And if you watch the whole trio of films, the ending was romantic and a good end.....except I'm afraid they might have suggested another possible film with the hugh Grant character --- or maybe just a final nod to his character since he was in the other two films.  I can't wholeheartedly recommend the film, but there's some fun and fluff here, so if you are up for that, and you've seen the other two, you might find this satisfactory.  I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

"BRIDGET JONES'S BABY"    2016     2 hours 3 mins     3.5 stars out of 5.

In this third chapter of Bridget's madcap existence, she unexpectedly finds herself pregnant at the age of 43. But with two suitors in her life -- barrister Mark Darcy and dashing tycoon Jack Qwant -- which one is the father?
