Movie #1411 ........................."Daddy's Home"

Movie #1411 "Daddy's Home" -- ah, the final plane movie --- just the right amount of  time, some winning personalities (Ferrell and Wahlburg this time, and a couple of cute kids saying nasty things...) and some escapism so I don't think about flying..... I would be giving this movie 2 stars out of 5 if it weren't for the opening of the film, which I found kind of refreshing and different.  It was going in a different direction than what I thought it would....and then it took a turn....for the worst, at the high point, the basketball game.  Yikes!  Hard to watch Ferrell's character stretched so far beyond belief any more. It was a whole new ballgame (excuse the pun) and the film limped to a conclusion.  thud!  That's too bad, because I think they had  good idea up front, and two talented people who are like oil and water, but they play well together.  The female is pulled and shows no complexity in character, and I didn't like that at all --- and neither should Linda Cardellini ("Freaks and Geeks")!
Not sure if I'll even watch the sequel on a plane, but Mel Gibson and John Lithgow are thrown into the mix.  Tempting!  I think it could be an interesting and valuable subject matter to cover in a film about how step dads and real dads get along....... but this isn't a good example, I don't think.

"DADDY'S HOME"      PG-13      2015       1 hour 35 mins

After marrying an alluring divorcée with two children, Brad steps eagerly into his role as stepdad. However, chronic interference from the kids' suave natural father leads to a slapstick rivalry between the two determined men.
