Movie #1293 ........................."Chicklit"

Movie #1293 "Chicklit" was a movie I picked up because:  the story sounded funny and sounded to  me like the plot in the  wonderful film "Calendar Girls,"  and the cast included a couple of people from Doc Martin so I felt comfortable watching them along with some new British actors I hadn't seen before.  Well, the film does have a funny premise, but that's about it.  There are a couple of cute moments but the story didn't seem to build to a crescendo (or maybe I missed it, so it wasn't that big?) and so I would hesitate recommending it ---- It's always a cute idea reversing roles  (like in "Some Like It Hot"), but the idea seemed to fizzle out quite quickly in this one.  3 stars out of 5
P.S.  for what it is worth --- I HaTE the title phrase --- never use it or refer to it and don't recognize that it exists..........and I think the film's message (making fun of it by reversing the roles and feeding into the stereotypes)  comes across well!

"CHICKLIT"      2016          1 Hr and 36 mins       3 stars out of 5

ChickLit is a comedy drama about four guys trying to save their local pub from closing down. They group write a chick lit, or more specifically a 'mummy porn' novel in the style of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and it gets snapped up. The only snag is that the publisher insists that the young woman 'author' does press and publicity. The guys have to keep their involvement a secret and so engage an out of work actress to 'role play' the part of the author. This leads to her becoming the star in the film of the book, the tables are turned on the guys and she is in control - leaving them with the awful prospect of having to secretly churn out sex novels for the foreseeable future.
