Movie # 990 ........................"The Imitation Game"

Movie #990 "The Imitation Game" is a wonderful film that I loved from the  opening minute until the end.  An intriguing story to me chronicling an important time in history and I found many of the characters well fleshed out ------not only Alan's "team" of co-workers but the people in MI6 who are ready to fire him or sometimes worse!  The cast is engaging with special kudos to Benedict Cumberbatch (should be nominated) and Keira Knightley (some of her best work is here) and one of my favorites Matthew Goode.  I would not be  surprised that this genius mathematician with so many quirks is probably Asperger's, and so the script takes him believably through his conflicts with his team members while simultaneously showing us what it was like for him in his younger days.  The stories are easily followed and make sense when put together; in fact, whenever one of the stories has some action happening that could get boring to watch (like the machine not doing anything for hours) the film quickly goes to the other one, and it's easy to follow.  I don't know if the script has much chance to be nominated for an oscar, but I found it and the dialogue quite good, so I wouldn't be surprised!  What a story, and to think that the people involved in the breaking of the code were sworn to secrecy for 50 years, so books and films are just coming out of this fascinating stories, and to be sure, Alan's will be the most fascinating, since he was an enigma himself, with this film and the audience trying to "crack the code" -- highly recommended, and should be nominated for best picture.

The Imitation Game2014PG-13           I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Chronicling mathematical wizard Alan Turing's key role in Britain's successful effort to crack Germany's Enigma code during World War II, this historical biopic also recounts how his groundbreaking work helped launch the computer age.
