Movie #1011 ........................."Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

Movie #1011 "Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is not quite as good as the first one, but it still is a lot of fun to watch all these very very capable actors.  Once again, the focus is on how vital, busy and entertaining the senior part of our lives can be. The film follows the soon-to-be wedding of Dev Patel to his girlfriend from the first movie, but also his plans to expand the hotel to another close by.  In addition, Richard Gere adds to the mix as a novelist who tries to Woo Dev Patel's hard to please mother.  Judi Dench is still on the fence about Bill Nighy pursuing her, and Maggie Smith is as curmudgeoning as ever, if that's a word.  The last movie had lots of poignant moments mixed with humor, and the same is here, although some of it seems a bit contrived or drummed up to keep the story going --- the editing seems a bit frenetic, moving swiftly back and forth from one member of the cast to the other, all with the wedding as a backdrop to get to what I thought was a good ending.   i found this quite winning, the cast superb, and the plot satisfactory.  I do recommend it, and I am sorry that it probably won't have a third in the series.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

2015 PG
I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars
In a sequel to the Golden Globe-nominated film, hotel owner Sonny is overwhelmed with the task of finding a second property to accommodate the influx of new residents, while his upcoming wedding plans may be too much for the hotel's staff to handle.
