Movie #3394 ........................." A Woman Rebels" (TCM)

Movie #3394 "A Woman Rebels" (TCM)  This is an old Katherine Hepburn feminist film with a neat story, I thought.  The conflict was really an intriguing one dealing with her getting pregnant , and covering that up, but then her having to deal with it much later when her daughter is of marrying age.  The film is a strong piece, historical drama, and still stands up in this age.  You can fault the heavy music here, which is out of date.  And the acting is a bit melodramatic, but the circumstance are, too, so I forgave them for that.  I'd give it a 4 out of 5 and recommend.

"A WOMAN REBELS"      1936      1 hour and 28 mins

Pamela, a woman in late 1800s England, wishes to be her own person and has no intention to ever marry.  After she has a great deal of difficulty finding a job, she finally lands a position at a magazine that covers topics like sewing and cooking.  When the editor takes sick, Pamela moves the magazine into discussing issues like gender equality, child labor, medical care, and job searches.  She is then surprised to find herself the leader of a movement.  After an unexpected event, she is also faced with raising a child without a father, something people at that time in Victorian England  thought was scandalous
