Movie #803 "Don Jon" --- now here's a movie that isn't for everybody --- there's a lot of porn shown, lots of "f" words used, and some crass discussion among Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his friends, but then on the other side of the coin, and a plus to seeing this film, is that it is very different in the rom-com genre (can't say I have ever seen a film quite like this) and it has a lot to say thematic wise in the 90 minutes it delivers --- it also is never boring. One other thing I found a plus in is that it is very topical. In this day and age, with porn available on the computer, it is conceivable that the result would be two worlds colliding ---- one that is emotionless and shallow vs. one that is overly romantic and manipulative. Both "buy" what society puts out there as stereotypical roles, and the guy needs someone like Julianne Moore to ground him in the reality of what makes a good relationship work. The supporting cast is might fine (with Glenne Headly, Tony Danza, and Julianna Moore, and Joe's little sister who just reads her texts on the phone through the entire movie ---- except for one pivotal scene --- look for it!) I must say it was quite entertaining, thought provoking and educational, but it's NOT for everyone!
Don Jon2013R I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars
