Movie #889 ........................."God's Pocket"

Movie #889 "God's Pocket" was an ugly, gritty movie about ugly, gritty people in an area in NYC called "God's Pocket" --- a place that doesn't like or respect you if you don't come from there ---- and everyone knows all of your business.  They drink hard and work hard, but at night they hang out at the local bar.  Phillip Seymour Hoffman's step son is killed at work, and his wife doesn't believe it is a work accident.  The film has a whole bunch of stories going on  simultaneously, and that part is kind of intriguing to watch, but when you find out how it all ends, nothing is happily ever after.  Very sad place, very sad stories, and on top of that, it is just sad watching Phillip Seymour Hoffman in one of his last films, drinking every minute of the film time.

God's Pocket2014NR     I'd give this 3 out of 5 stars
Blue collar worker Mickey tries to cover things up when his stepson is killed in a suspicious construction accident, but a local reporter senses that something's amiss. As he's backed into a corner by the truth, Mickey struggles to find a way out.
