Movie #1702 ........................."A Private War"

Movie #1702 "A Private War" I rented this from redbox because I had heard about it during the award season and wondered why it didn't garner the lead a best actress nomination because she is very very good here.  This is based on a true story --- we know the ending (if we watch the news) and that syrian scene where she skips in to Anderson Cooper is amazing!  What she does, how it is filmed, and to know she is dead a few minutes after that......just gave me chills.  Getting there was a bit of a chore, though, because the viewer has to go through a lot of camera-held shots (they make me personally very dizzy, but I understand why they are used) , has to watch millions of cigarettes smoked by Marie (the journalist), has to watch the eye patch on the eye through more than half of the film (and if it is tedious to us, can you imagine having to wear it (it was due to being hit by explosives  in Sri Lanka when she was trying to cover that war.  That's what Marie Colvin was known for --- covering the stories no one else wanted to do, and she died in the line of service.  The film makes you value all those journalists who put their lives on the line so the real truth comes out (not the fake news expounded by our white house, and parts of the senate, and fox news).  So if you want an injection of inspiration watching a person with integrity doing her job, you might want to look for this one --- but you need a strong stomach --- there are a lot of dead bodies of civilians that she and the viewer are exposed to in pursuing the truth.  I give this 4 out of 5 stars (a slow start filled with a little confusion took one star away for me)

"A PRIVATE WAR"    2018

In world where journalism is under attack, Marie Colvin is one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Her mission is to show the true cost of war, driving her, along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy, to embark on the most dangerous assignments of their lives as they journey to the front line of conflicts across the globe.
