Movie #1365 "Magic Mike" -- I had a room full of women who hadn't seen this film, so tonight we streamed it through netflix, and it wasn't bad. Dave and I had just seen "Logan Lucky" by Soderbergh the other night starring Chatum, and Dave hadn't seen him in everything, so he watched the opening and then left the room so I'm thinking he wouldn't recommend it, but then again, it isn't really made for men, is it? That's what bothered me about the way the film was offered to moviegoers --- I wasn't about to go to a theatre and scream and yell when the strip scenes were going on --- But ever since it came out, I was curious to see a movie on this subject in the hands of such a well respected director and cast. McConaughey never fails to surprise me -- he is your next Al Pacino, chewing up the scenery -- he loves these off kilter characters that he sometimes gets to play, and his enthusiasm pulls viewers in --- Channing Tatum is very accomplished in dancing, and since this is supposedly HIS story, somewhat, it was fun to watch what he can do dance wise and acting wise. And Matthew BoHmer is always a treat since one of my favorite shows "White Collar" came to an end. The story was predictable, but it had some raw energy that offered a few surprises along the way. Music is good, too, in this cautionary tale (theme came through loud and clear). I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.
