Movie #558 ........................."Tiny Furniture"

Movie #558 "Tiny Furniture" is an odd film --- it is one of those slices of life type pieces, and it starts at a crossroads for a twenty year old just done with school --- what to do now is the question? The film, however, doesn't give a lot of answers --- she doesn't seem to be changed by the end, so I disliked that part ---- in fact, the ending seemed to be mid sentence? Maybe I missed something there? It seemed very inadequate and unsuccessful and pretty much ruined the film for me. But there were some saving graces here ---- the twenty year old who wrote, directed and starred in the film was so normal looking (when she walks around pantless, it was refreshing to see the legs of a real person, instead of some skinny mini with a personal trainer who doesn't eat --- the type we usually see in films. Her interactions with her mother and sister (real one, in this case) felt realistic to me, too. But the dialogue was clunky many times, the journey unorganized and meandering, and the editing could have been crisper for my money. I don't think I'd recommend it too many people at all ---- only a few would find her journey halfway interesting, esp. without an end in sight.

I rate this 2.8 out of 5 stars
Tiny Furniture
(2010) NR
When twenty-something film theory major Aura (Lena Dunham) returns home after college to live with her artist mother in TriBeCa, she confronts a long list of personal and professional failures and wonders whether her dismal past will become her future. It's an early midlife crisis for sure, but there's hope on the horizon if Aura can figure out who she is and what she's really meant to do. Dunham also wrote and directed this wry comedy.
