Movie #3565 ........................."The Christmas Baby" (Hallmark)

Movie #3565  "The Christmas Baby" (Hallmark)  This is a lesbian couple who find a baby left on their doorstep (the kid is adorable) , and can't make up their minds what to do with the baby --- the two potential parents were believable and had chemistry. The story could have a bit more about the pros and cons (pretty stereotypical) but it got its major idea across:  all parents can have these problems.  I'd give it 3.5 and moderately recommend it.

"THE CHRISTMAS BABY"       2025    2 hours

Movie #3564 ........................."A Make or Break Holiday" (Hallmark)

Movie #3564 "A Make or Break Holiday" (Hallmark)  The film tries too hard  --- couple is to fake that they haven't been getting along --- watching so much arguing was stressful -- so I wouldn't recommend watching this one.  I'd give it 3 out of 5.

Movie #3563 ........................."A Royal Date for Christmas" (Hallmark)

Movie #3This 563 "A Royal Date for Christmas" (Hallmark)  This film dragged for a while, talking about what clothes to wear, etc.  Lots of small talk but I feel like it was okay because in the hand of "Winnie" (from "Wonder Years).   I'd gibe it 3.8 out of 5.

Movie #3562 ........................."Single on the 25th " (Hallmark)

Movie #3562 "Single on 25th" (Hallmark) This film was very different, mostly because the two leads seem to want to be alone together, than to just be alone.  Hard to buy that.  It's all about the fine art of fending off answering questions ....like:  why are you still single?"  stop considering it a defect when you aren't coupled.  Love is not for everybody.  That is a different message for a Hallmark movie and I welcomed it.  I'd give it 4.5 out of 5.

"  SINGLE ON 25TH"   2025     TV-G

The story follows a 30-something who spends Christmas alone in the city,  only to find unexpected companionship with a handsome neighbor.

Movie #3561 ........................."The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" (Amazon Prime)

Movie #3561 "The best Christmas Pageant Ever" (Amazon Prime)  this was pretty low key except for a very poignant ending -- and another positive is that it is good for the whole family to see.  It's a classic story (Book) and this rendition is okay --- I'd give it 3.8 out of 5.

"TBEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER"          PG    1 hr and 39 mins.     2024

Actor:  Kyle Welman, Sebastian Billingsley-Rodriguez, Judy Greer

Movie #3560 ........................."Knives Out: WAKE UP DEAD MAN " (Netflix)

Movie #560 "Knives Out:  WAKE UP DEAD MAN" (Netflix) We thought this was the best of the three "Knives Out" films mostly because Craig doesn't run the show and monopolize the time with his fake accent as the detective -- Josh O'Connor runs it and boy is he good!  Pair him with Glenn Close and you've got a winner for us --- we'd give it 5 out of 5 and recommend it.

KNIVES OUT:  WAKE UP DEAD MAN    PG-13       2024       2 HOURS AND 24 MINS.

Detetive Benoit Blanc teams up with an earnest young priest to investigate a perfectly impossible crime at a small-town church with a dark history.

Director:  Rian Johnson

\Wrioter:  Rian Johnson

Actor:  Daniel Craig, Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close

Movie #3559 ........................."Have We Met This Christmas" (Great American Family Channel)

Movie #3559 "Have We Met This Christmas" (GAFC) -- very disappointed with this channel's xmas movies -- I tuned in to this one in particular because I like "Winnie" (from "Wonder Years) -- but she plays an amnesiac in this one --- and it just blends in with all the amnesiac films during xmas time --- and it is more far fetched and not of good writing quality like the others.  This movie just seemed to go on and on too coincidental and heavy hand3ed for me.  I give it a 3 out of 5.

"HAVE WE MET THIS CHRISTMAS"       Great American Film Channel   2025

Movie #3558 ........................."She's Making a List:" (Hallmark)

Movie #3558 "She's Making A List" (Hallmark)  I thought this was the dumbest idea for a Christmas film -- it didn't work for me, even with a set of high-powered Hallmark actors (Lacey Chabert and Andrew Walker --- can you get any better?)  and a cute young girl who rolls her eyes better than anyone I know.  The story is just so silly --- and the result of that is a forced effort to get laughs.  They really try to make it work, but...... I give this a mild 3 and hope for the best in their next ventures together (I didn't like the other one they were together in either).

"SHE'S MAKING A LIST"      Hallmark     2025       1 hour and 24 mins

Movie #3557........................"The Snow Must Go On" (Hallmark)

Movie #3557 "The Snow Must Go On" (Hallmark)  -- from the title, guess what this one is about and why I would like it?  It's about a Broadway bound guy, having a hard time selling his one man show,  while visiting his family for Christmas gets drawn into his niece's high school christmas show --- and finds himself in the director's chair --- Lots of laughs, hard work, teenage angst, and learning going on for the two leads. I always love to watch people trying to put on a show --- everyone should do it at least once in a lifetime!  hah!  Good job and I give it 4.5 ( a bit corny in parts!)

"THE SNOW MUST GO ON"         2025     1 hour and 24 mins      Hallmark

Movie #3556 ........................,"The More the Merrier" (Hallmark)

Movie #3556 "The More the Merrier" (Hallmark)  forced/awkward love interest all the way through the film.  Thank god for the female here, running the show --- The story going on in the hospital with 5 babies born one Christmas night is well done.  I'd give this a 4 out of 5 --- guy was weak.

"THE MORE THE MERRIER"      Hallmark     2025      2 hours

Movie #3555 ........................."Christmas at the Catnip Cafe" (Hallmark)

Movie #3555 "Christmas at the Catnip Cafe" (Hallmark)  I loved the cats, Paul, the lead, and the girl.  Lots of heart in this one, and I loved the humor and the slow (but believable) development of a loving relationship between the leads when it appeared to be doomed from the start.  I give it a 5 out of 5 --- and you don't have to like cats!

"CHRISTMAS AT THE CATNIP CAFE"      Hallmark     1 hr and 24 mins   2025

Actors:  Erin Cahill, Paul Campbell, Frances Flanagan

Movie #3554 ........................."Tidings of the Season" (Hallmark)

Movie #3554 "Tidings for  the Season" (Hallmark)  This was a nice and different story that puts the weight of the film on a little kid, who was outstanding.  He wants to be an anchor for the local news some day, and he is overjoyed to get the chance to intern for a week with his hero --- who is going through life changes of his own --- one big opportunity to move up is awaiting him, esp. when he starts to love this little kid and his mother.  So while the kid learns the rope of the broadcasting industry, the mother learns to love again, and the anchor learns a lot about taking control of his own life.  (Conflict and title were a little weak, but the kid was terrific!  I'd give this a 4 out of 5.

Movie #3553 ........................."Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story" (Hallmark)

Movie #3553 "Holiday Touchdown:  A Bills Love Story"  (Hallmark)  really this one has two love stories going on - the girl is a bit too animated for film, but cute.  Joe Pantoliano is a welcome sight to see back in film --- we refer to him as "Pants," and he has been in a number of films playing memorable characters, and in this film, he does not disappoint.  I didn't recognize any of the Bills' players because I dislike football and don't watch it, but I found the movie okay --- there wasn't a lot of football in it at all --- mostly family stage business..... while the two leads hunt down Pants' old girlfriend.  I'd give this a 4 out of 5.

"HOLIDAY TOUCHDOWN:  A BILLS LOVE STORY"    2025    1 hr , 27 mins      Hallmark

The movie centers around the Quinns and DeLucas who have lived next door to each other for decades in the shadow of Highmark Stadium - the home of their beloved Buffalo Bills.  With their longtime friendship rooted in  being  proud members of the Bills mafia, the two clans have enjoyed cherished traditions that revolve around cheering for their favorite team - especially. at the holidays when they celebrate the last home game before Christmas.

Director:  Dustin Rikert

Writers:  Vanessa Marano, Danielle Morrow

Actors:  Holland Roden, Matthew Daddario, Joe Pantoliano

Movie #3532 ........................."A Grand Ole Opry Christmas" (Hallmark)

Movie #3532 "A Grand Ole Opry Christmas" (Hallmark)  Wow!  This was much much better than I thought it would be --- I have never been interested in country western anything, but I trusted the two lead actors, and I was amazed at how much I liked this --- another surprise that I would like it is that it has time travel in it --- one of those fantasy kind of things that I dislike, but time travel when used well, can win me over, and it did in this film.  I learned so much about Opryland, like the circle on the stage that you have to earn to be able to sing in it, and so much history was given to the viewer --- the two actors were really grounded in reality, for such a possible far-fetched idea for the film, and I really appreciated that and went along with them wherever they went.  One added cool thing is that Brett Paisley sang his own song at the end, but didn't get credit for it IN the film -- she was supposed to have written it with her dad.  I thought that was really nice of him to let that happen.  I'd give this film a 5 out of 5 and highly recommend it.

"A GRAND OLE OPRY CHRISTMAS"    2025     1 hour and 35 mins     Hallmark

Actors:  Nikki DeLoach, Kristoffer Polaha, Rob Mayes

Movie #3531 ........................."We Met In December" (Hallmark)

Movie #3531 "We Met in December" (Hallmark) What makes this still another winner this year is the way the story is told...... the meet up of the two takes a slow 15 minutes or so, and then something happens that they lose each other, and the rest of the film is "where's Waldo" --- they put clues together from the day they spent together, and I really liked the way the story built a relationship in that way --- and it underlines the possibility that it just takes a day when you meet your soulmate.  A good romance, but told in a believable way.  I'd give this a 5 out of 5 and recommend it.

"WE MET IN DECEMBER"   2025      1 hour and 24 mins     Hallmark

Actors:  Autumn Reeder, Niall Matter, Kyana Teresa

Movie #3530 ........................."Alpine Holiday" (Hallmark)

Movie #3530 "Alpine Holiday"  (Hallmark)  Here's another winner this season --- really enjoyed the dramatic story here.  Two sisters very different with baggage involving grief.  There was a lot of repetition I felt in discussions between the two women, and the one woman and the French guide, but overall it was believable, and the stage business was amazing --- all the beautiful locations, the climbing of that big mountain, the Paris streets, the cabin they had to stay in -- really well done, and I would give it a 4 out of 5. (strong acting, too)

"AN ALPINE HOLIDAY"    2025      2 hours    Hallmark

Movie #3529 ........................."Christmas Above the Clouds" (Hallmark)

Movie #3529 "Christmas Above the Clouds" (Hallmark)  Now that I have seen most of the Hallmark offerings this year (2025) , I can say this is one of the better ones for a number of reasons --- the cast is good, it makes fun of the Christmas Carol movie (which deserves it -- Dickens would be happy, I think, with this film) , puts it into a wild plane ride (which super annoys the Miss Neezer character) and has one of the best lines this season.  When she is in a library and lonely, she says, "no, not like Donna Reed" -- only fans of "It's a Wonderful Life" would get that joke!  Now put her next to fan favorite Tyler Hynes, who is playing her ex-fiancee, and you've got  scenes being even funnier.  This is truly a movie "out of the box" from the Hallmark standard fare, and I really enjoyed the stab at creativity here.  However, toward the end, it weakens when it follows the standard Hallmark ending -- but I still enjoyed it and give it a 4 out of 5.

"CHRISTMAS ABOVE THE CLOUDS"     2025     1 hour and 24 mins  Hallmark

A comedic, modern-day reimagining of A Christmas Carol."

Director:  Peter Benson

Writers:  Christine Garver, Stephanie Jackson

Actors:  Erin Krakow, Tyler Hynes, Emily Tennant

Movie #3528 ........................."Home Alone" (Disney +)

Movie #3528 "Home Alone"   Yes, I am reviewing a "classic Christmas movie"  that I have never really sat down and watched, but I'm glad I did, because I didn't find it as awful as I thought I would have.  I was very surprised at how good MacCaulay Culkin was in the film -- not at the beginning but halfway through he starts to break from the robotic way he recites lines in the opening.  I thought the film was just these two guys falling down stairs, etc., but that's just the high point --- there's a lot more to the film, and I esp. like the relationship he had with his neighbor, and that scene in the church was very well done (probably the reason  Maccaulay  was nominated for a Golden Globe award for this film).  The ending was poignant and can put the viewer into the Christmas spirit, so I'd recommend it and give it 4 out of 5.  I thought the chaotic opening was a bit too silly (along with a few other moments), but on the whole the film is  well done, and deserving of its accolades.

"HOME ALONE"      1990     PG     1 hour and 43 mins     Disney +

Director:  Chris Columbus

Writer:  John Hughes

Actors:  Macaulay Cullen, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern

Movie #3527 ........................."Merrily We Roll Along' (theatre - fathom)

Movie #3527 "Merrily We Roll Along"  (theatre - fathom)  Once in a while a fathom presentation comes along, and usually it is a Broadway show that has been filmed.  We have seen several of these ("Monty Python" comes to mind, and "One Man, Two Governors, with James Cordon") , so when we saw Stephen Sondheim's show offered, we jumped at the chance to see it .  The show's history is pretty intriguing --- a flop when it first came out, due to maybe not understanding it the way it was presented,  it was put into a drawer for several years.  It was Sondheim's intent to try again with it, but then he died.  So his trust got a female director (who knew what she was doing) and three actors who were passionate about the show, including Daniel Radcliffe (Yes, Harry Potter) and the inimitable Jonathan Groff (the original king in "Hamilton" and on Broadway now playing Bobby Darin in "Just in Time,")  , and a female who was not known to me, but boy is she good! (Lyndsay Mendez) and made magic --- the show was sold out in its limited run and we never got to see it live -- it won Tony Awards for the two male leads and the show itself, and we are so grateful that it was filmed in June last year so we could see it.  I loved it!  The story is told backwards and shows a disintegration of relationships between best friends, from the ugly ending to the beautiful meet up.  It is very inspiring and informative on how relationships can last if those involved work on them, and I'm not sure it is still around, but if it is, or you get to stream it, it is wonderful!  So well done, we came out quite inspired by Stephen Sondheim again!  "Not a Day Goes By" is the big number, and it is used in two different ways -- what a song, what a show!  5 out of 5.

"MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG"     2025    PG-13    2 hours and 25 minutes

Spanning three decades, the turbulent relationship between a composer and his two lifelong friends, a writer and a lyricist and playwright.

Director Maria Friedman

Writer:  George Furth

Actors:  Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez

Movie #3526 ........................."Jay Kelly " (Netflix)

Movie #3526 "Jay Kelly" (Netflix) this film seemed to me another "8 1/2" -- where a director( (in this case, an actor) looks back on his career wondering was it all worth it?  So What?  In this case, it is George Clooney, and he does an okay job, probably one of the best jobs he has ever done, but Adam Sandler steals the movie to me, and might be nominated for his performance here ---he is the actor's trusted friend/lackey who deals with all the problems that come the actor's way --- well, he has had enough, and he's dealing with problems oof his own, so now what?  The film goes through those he loves, his family, in the past and in the present --- he has a daughter that doesn't really like him that much, and he's trying to win h3r back, so he follows her on her European trip hoping to make a better connection with her --- There isn't a lot of action in the film, but the film does have some sentimental moments - Should he continue acting, or just give it up since he's of an age where it just gets harder all around for him?  That's the big question facing him (and I bet Clooney, as well,, at his age)  Is it all figured out by the end?  Maybe.... it's up to you, the viewer , and your interpretation.  I'd give this a 4 out of 5 -- worth the time, esp. if you like Clooney, and probably want to see a heavily touted film for the award season this year.

"  JAY KELLY"       2025      R      2 hours and 12 mins

Famous movie actor Jay Kelly embarks on a journey of self -discovery, confronting his past and present with his devoted manager Ron.  Poignant and humor-filled, pitched at the intersection of regrets and glories.

Actors:  George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Stanley Townsend

Movie #3525 .........................."Jingle Bell Heist" (Netflix)

Movie #3525 "Jingle Bell Heist" (Netflix)  I really liked this film, and we are suckers for heist films.  It started a little slow with background  --- it's not a rom-com, so the meeting of the two was a bit awkward, but once we get the info on why both of these need this heist, then we are behind them all the mucked up way they execute it.  The script is smart and the two young actors are very good -- don't know the girl, but she is a dead ringer for a young Julia Styles, and the guy is  from "Sex Education," a series we really enjoyed a few years ago.  We recommend it and I'd give it a 5 out of 5.

"JINGLE BELL HEIST"      2025      netflix      1 hour and 36 mins.

At the height of the holiday season, two strangers team up to rob one of London's most famous department stores while accidentally falling in love.

Director:  Michael Fimognari

Writers:  Abby McDonald, Amy Reed

Actors:  Olivia Holt, Connor Swindells, Luy Punch

Movie #3524 ........................."I Don't Understand You": (Hulu)

Movie #3524 "I Don't Understand You" (Hulu)   Someone recommended this to us, so we watched it, esp. since we like Andrew Rannells (we saw him on Broadway in "Book of Mormon" and he was outstanding!)  The acting was good, but the script was not --- there were a few laughs here and there at the beginning, but then about 40 minutes in, the film switched to a Horror vibe -- became very dark , even for a dark comedy.  And the ending was flat.  I'd give it a 3, but I wouldn't recommend it.

"I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU"        hulu     2024      R      1 hour and 37 mins

Movie #3523 ........................."A Newport Christmas " (Hallmark)

Movie #3523 "A Newport Christmas" (Hallmark) I found this one intriguing, and it kept my attention the whole time.  The guy was stiff, and the story was very hard to believe because it dealt with magic.  But I bought the love story and I didn't mind the magic because I wanted to believe that with soulmates, this situation could happen.  I'd give it a 4, and recommend it to those who might believe in slight magic in a love story.

"A NEWPORT CHRISTMAS"      Hallmark     2025

Ella is a charitable and spirited Newport socialite in 1905 who dreams of using her wealth to start a foundation to help others in town.  After learning her father intends for her to become engaged to a man she's never met at the upcoming Christmas Eve ball, Ella goes for a nighttime sail in her schooner to clear her head.  Upon seeing a comet shoot across the sky, she wistfully wishes for a different life.  Ella is shocked to suddenly find Nick, a sailor and local Newport historian, aboard her schooner and accuses him of being a stowaway.  But Nick insists he owns the boat and a standoff ensues.  Once on dry land, Ella realizes that somehow, she's traveled from 1905 to 22025.  As she spends time there and gets a glimpse at what her future in 1905 appears to be, she becomes reluctant to return, especially since she and Nick have grown close, and she now knows how true love feels.  But the legacy Ella built in her time - and the course of Newport's history - risks being erased the longer she stays in the present, so the two plot a course for her trip back through time.  But what awaits her at home is even more surprising than  what she found in the future.

Movie #3522 ........................."Three Wisest Men" (Hallmark)

Movie 33522 "Three Wisest Men" (Hallmark)  Well, this is part of the trilogy, and being the last one, it should be the best, but it wasn't.  It was hard for me to stay awake, seriously.  There was a lot of conflict, a lot of smarmy comebacks in the dialogue to each other, but to me it just didn't work.  I think I will have to revisit it to see if maybe the cold pills I was taking made me sleepy, rather than just watching this film.  I would give it a 4 from what I saw, but it was stunning to me at all.

"THREE WISEST MEN"   2025       1 hour 24 mins        Hallmark

Movie #3521 ........................." Paris Christmas Waltz"(Netflix)

Movie #3521 "Christmas Paris Waltz" (Netflix)   This was a family friendly film about Paris and dancing with Morrison, so I watched it (and free streaming on Netflix)   -- Paris was lovely and so was Morrison ---- and she held her own and did her own dancing,  I liked it and recommend it.  4

Movie #3520........................."Christmas Keller Vacation" (Hallmark)

Movie #3520 "Christmas Keller Vacation: (Hallmark) This was kind of a fast- paced film that tried to do a lot , and much of it was entertaining.  What I esp. liked about this one was the humor.  It was welcomed in this film.  I'd give it a 4.5.

"CHRISTMAS KELLER VACATION"      Hallmark     2025   1 hr and 24 mins

Movie #3519 ........................."Christmas on Duty" (Hallmark)

Movie #3519 "Christmas on Duty" (Hallmark)  This is one of the better ones so far in this crop of Hallmark Christmas Movies 2025.  Why?  The stage bustiness was amusing and had a purpose, and the two actors showed some chemistry and were believable  in their roles.  One shout out was how they uniquely used the ubiquitous snowball fight to make it different in the Hallmark world.  I'd give this a 5 out of 5.  First one given this year.

"CHRISTMAS ON DUTY"    2025    2 HOURS   HALLMARK

Movie #3518 ........................."Debbie Macomber's Mr. Miracle" (Hallmark)

Movie #3518 "Debbie Macomber's Mr. Miracle" (Hallmark)  I usually like Rob Morrow  and I usually like Hallmark movies based on Debbie M's books, but this one?  not so much.  The acting Rob Morrow does here is not believable at all, always smiling -- he doesn't act like an angel at all -- I can see an angel would be fun loving, but h acts like his high Q is very low, and that doesn't cut the  muster with me.  The overall film was a weak 3, but I don't recommend this one at all.

"DEBBIE MACOMBER'S MR. MIRACLE"   2014      1 hour and 26 mins.     Hallmark

Movie #3517 ........................."Zootopia" (dvd)

Movie #3517 "Zootopia" (dVD)  Since we are about to see #2 of this franchise and we just got back from WDW where we were  reintroduced to this movie when a tribute to it is now in "Bug's Life" home in Animal Kingdom, we thought we'd re-watch it --- because we couldn't remember it at all.  It still is not as good as "It's a Bug's Life" and we still think the short they have in the Tree of Life exhibition in WDW needs to be slower and clearer (maybe possibly using closed captions for the quick paced dialogue).  The movie was just okay with a lot of "cute" moments.  It was often  slow in pacing, maybe due to the laid back main character the fox, played by Jason Bateman.  He is sarcastic and smarmy, but a great help to the lead bunny.  The ending was entertaining and left a good memory in this watcher, but I still would just give it 3.8 out of 5.

"ZOOTOPIA"         dvd          2016       PG    1 hour and 48 mins

In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.

Movie #3516 ........................."Only Murders in the Building" Season 5 (Hulu)

Movie #3516 "Only Murders in the Building" Season 5 (Hulu) This one was easier to follow had the last one -- a few less major people to follow --- three, to be exact:  3 major people as possible murderers when the doorman is killed in front of the building.  Because there were less characters, they were defined more easily and it allowed us to guess along the way more easily.  Usually bu the end of each season, I care less about the show, but this one was better than the others due to the tremendous talent in the cast and the storyline.  I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

"ONLY MURDER IN THE BUILDING" SEASON 5 (HULU)  2025     30 mins.  10 episodes

Movie #3515 ........................."House of Dynamite" (Netflix)

Movie #3515 "House of Dynamite" (Netflix)  this is a think piece, hard to follow with all the people, all the military jargon, acronym, weaponry details, and a nebulous ending.  The way the story is told is the same story is told through 4 points of view --- some work better because of that, some don't and there's repetition.  One would think there would be more clarity, but not really.  However, technically, it's a marvel to watch this director at work.  I'd give it 3.8.

"HOUSE OF DYNAMITE"  NETFLIX      2025      R      1 hour and 52 mins

When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the US, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.

Movie #3514 ........................."Son of a Critch' - Seasons 2-4 (Netflix)

Movie #3514 "Son of a ritch " - Seasons 2-4 (Netflix)  Great Show and sorry to se we are done with it --- hoping it might pop up again and be renewed for Season 5.  .  It deals with all kinds of family situations, especially. focuses on the son who is starting to become a man with feelings of love for a special girl, and also with hopes of becoming a standup comic, all while sharing a bedroom with his grandpa.  So many hilarious moments in this show, but with the heart of a "Wonder Years" --- just with a wackier family living in Newfoundland.  4.5

Movie # 3513 ........................."Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost" (Apple tv)

Movie #3513 "Stiller & Meara:  Nothing is Lost" (Apple tv) is a documentary on the married comedy couple Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller, which according to the movie was probably in better working condition than their marriage, according to the two children that put the film together.  A lot of arguing behind the scenes, a lot of sacrificing on both sides for the good of the duo, but the couple would come alive when in front of any audie3nce.  The biography was funny and sad, full of interviews, tapes that were recorded trough their whole lives, videos of them performing and working on skits they would put together.  There is a lot of data here, and a lot of it is interesting and diverse.  I just felt it needed a little better ending.  But I recommend it with a 4 out of 5.

Movie #3512 ........................."Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper" (Hallmark)

Movie #3512 "Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper" (Hallmark)  Well, I usually like all of Kim Sustad's films because she's so honest, and I did like this one, but Ted was a tough acceptance for me --- he was a bit too hard to believe -- a pollyanna kind of character.  So the script went merrily along allowing the jokes to come from all the mishaps Ted has during the Christmas season with his co-workers betting on just how bad it could get for him.  And he just takes everything in stride while re-falling in love with a high school crush, Kim.  Thank goodness the film took an abrupt turn at the conflict --- and had it be that , you guessed it, he WAS too hard to believe, and the couple had to face that obstacle.  The ending actually made me laugh, and with the conflict being a very real one, I am ending up giving this a 4 out of 5 and recommending it.  That's hard to believe, isn't it?

"MERRY CHRISTMAS, TED COOPER"     Hallmark   2025     1 hr 24 mins

Movie #3511 ........................."Home Turf" (Hallmark)

Movie #3511 "Home Turf" (Hallmark)  This is not Christmas, but this is the best of the new "Christmas" batch of Hallmark movies this year so far ---- I really enjoyed this one, and for it being on football, it must have been a great script with interesting characters and good acting.  And it was!  Nikki DeLoach is one of my favorites so I wasn't surprised the film would be one of the better ones, but having not been impressed by Warren Christie in his Montana film that started all the Hallmark christmas season this year, I was totally floored he was so engaging in this one --- and he had to go pretty far in being convincing as a big deal football player and son of a guru in football --- the story involved a part of a football team that has no housing for a while (due to bad water pipes) and they move into the president of a small colleges home for that amount of time , and everyone changed a little bit for the better.  So its focus seemed to rise above the usually surfacey subject matter that is covered in some of these Hallmark films.  The forming of a temporary 'family" with non-football enthusiasts and football players makes for an optimistic game plan for a film and I'd give it a 5.  This is a must see this year, I think.

"HOME TURF"       Hallmark     2025

The life of Cassidy, president of a small college, is thrown for a loop when freshmen n the football team move into her home.  Can Logan, the handsome coach help smooth things over?

Movie #3510 ........................."Haul Out the Halloween" (Hallmark)

Movie #3510 "Haul Out the  Halloween" (Hallmark)  Lacy Chabert and the guy in these series of "Haul Out" films are good in their scenes, when the film stops being a gatling gun of lame jokes --- characters are caricatures, so the only real people are Lacy, the guy and Melissa Peterman (who plays Pamela) -- her part is as big as the others, but she knows how to get it across -- I think the lines are delivered fast because the actors know they are stinkers and would fall flat once they come out of their mouths. It is a try at including Halloween antics --- but they are just presented with bobbing apples and magic tricks --- not as much subject matter as Christmas movies can offer.  I would still encourage them to investigate this holiday and possibly thanksgiving even more in future ones --- and this film had a valid theme:  they learned to work together instead of the constant competing --- and i'm glad of that because watching competition is not all that funny.  I'd give this a 3 and not recommend it.

"HAUL OUT THE HALLOWEEN"   2025     1 hr and 24 mins      Hallmark

Movie #3509 ........................."John Candy: I Like Me: " (Amazon Prime)

Movie #3509 "I Like Me:  John Candy documentary" (Amazon Prime)  disclaimer:  I was never a big fan of John Candy --- I usually felt he was way too big for television and oftentimes pastimes the silly line for me; however, this documentary made me want to check out some of his movies.  Why?  he was such a nice guy to all of the people he would meet and work with, and he worked hard to be taken seriously.  Ryan Reynolds produced the film , and his stories about getting Dan Aykroyd  and Bill Murray to be in this documentary were hilarious so it made me want to see it.  Colin Hanks directed it, too, and I am a big fan of his work, and of course his dad's work.  It had a variety of ways to present Mr. Candy, from interviews, to glimpses of his rehearsals, actual footage of some SNL sketches, and scenes from his movies, all while getting across this well respected comedian who seemed loved by all who knew and worked with him.  I'd give it a 3.5 -- and recommend it --- a good documentary and worth your while to watch it.

"JOHN CANDY:  I LIKE ME"         Amazon Prime    PG-13   1 hour and 53 mins      2025

Explores the life and legacy of the iconic funnyman John Candy, who died of a heart attack in 1994 at the age of 43.

Movie #3508 ........................."A Christmas Angel Match" (Hallmark)

Movie #3508 " Christmas Angel match" (Hallmark)  Well, this one was way out of the box -- written by the actress in the film  with the focus on   Angels in competition in putting together romantic couples.  Two angels who don't get along and constantly compete with each other are put together to work on a rather difficult coupling.  Sounds goofy, but it is funny in parts. I usually ditch Hallmark films about angels, but I started watching this one, and I noticed the script seemed carefully written and well thought out.  For example, it made of itself and snowball fights, flashdancing , lame cute meetups that look forced.  The couple the angels are trying to put together aren't your usually charismatic one.  And the couple of angels have to be passionate in trying to get their crazy ideas across, so it tends to work.  I'd give it a 4, and I thought it was worth a look see.

"A CHRISTMAS ANGEL MATCH"    Hallmark    2025

Two Christmas Angels with opposite styles must nite soulmates before the holiday while dealing with department downsizing and their own unexpected connection.

Movie #3507 ........................."Andrew Young: The Dirty Work" (MSNBC)

Movie #3507 "Andrew Young:  The Dirty Work" (MSNBC)This documentary was a good one, but I felt it could have given even more information but be shorter (better edited) .  There was a lot of just him talking.  But the major point of the film came across quite well:   A lot can be accomplished through protesting.  I'd give this a 4 out of 5.

"ANDREW YOUNG:  THE DIRTY WORK"    2025     2 hrs

A  Civil Rights icon shares his remarkable path from pastor to MLK's ally, congressman, UN Ambassador, and Atlanta may9or, revealing the gritty realities of fighting for social change across decades of American history.

Movie #3505 ........................."A Royal Mountain Christmas" (Hallmark)

Movie #3505 "A Royal Mountain Christmas" (Hallmark)  Well, this idea didn't work out:  take a member of royalty (one subgenre in Hallmark movies) and put her into one of those mountain ranch type movies --- and make it the premier of all the Christmas movies for Hallmark 2025!  Nope -- a big disappointment to me.  this film never pulled me in --- the fake British  accent on the lead actress (she was born in S. California) was annoying -- the story was weak, conflict weak --- the guy was good to look at but not used well at all in the film -- I'd give it a 3, and suggest skipping it.

"A ROYAL MONTANA CHRISTMAS"   2 hrs,( well, that's it --- too long for Hallmark!)   2025   Hallmark

Movie #3506 ......................,...."Adventures in Love and Birdnig" (Hallmark)

Movie #3506 "Adventures in Love and Birding" (Hallmark)  I love Rachel Boston, I love Andrew W. Walker, but I did not like this movie.  They were their usual cuteness and competence in whatever they were doing, but the topic failed them -- birding --- oh come on, birding not exciting?  There's finding the birds, writing down you found them and watching them through binoculars and finally taking a picture.  And there are contests for all of this.  Well, the stage business just didn't work for me, very boring.  I'd give it 3.5 and I do not recommend.

"ADVENTURES OF LOVE AND BIRDING"        Hallmark        1 hour and 24 mins       2025

Movie #3504 ........................"The Makeover" (Hallmark)

Movie #3504 "The Makeover" (Hallmark) This was really different for a Hallmark movie -- It was the usual "corny" in some spots, and it doesn't teach a lot about politics, but it is political, showing something we are lacking a lot these days --- politicians with integrity.  Hard to believe, right?  Well, it made me feel better that there just might be still some people like the ones in this film.  Woman, who has all the smarts to run, but she's female, decides to do a makeover of a likable guy who knows very little about politics, but he has a lot of heart!  I give it a 4 out of 5.

"MAKEOVER"       Hallmark    2013               1 hour and 33 mins

Movie #3503 ........................."I Used to be Funny" (netflix)

Movie #3503 "I Used to be Funny" (Netflix )  The weird title got me to watch this the other night, and I found it had an intriguing story ---  a young woman becomes an aupair when she's in her 20s for a difficult young teen who lathes on to her --- the teen's mom is sickly and the dad doesn't pay as much attention as he should because of the nature of the girl and what she is going through.  The au pair senses that and becomes too close --- so when she wants to spend more of her time honing her skills as a stand up comic, the young teen feels abandoned and thrown away --- to make matters worse, the dad causes more problems that separate the two girls.  The film is a bit rough (rough in transitions, photography and some clunky dialogue)  at times, but has a good message, and like I said, the subject matter is a bit different.  I'd give it 3.5 out of 5.  With a mild recommendation.

"I USED TO BE FUNNY"     Netflix        2023       1 hour and 45 minutes

Movie #3502 ........................."Superman" (Max)

Movie #3502 "Superman" (Max)    TOO MUCH FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!! More dog scenes and scenes with Lois Lane (Brosnahan was the only reason I would watch this kind of film)  Disappointing to me  - 3 out of 5

PS - he was interesting, though  --- I wouldn't mind seeing more of him as Superman -- his awkwardness was believable -- and kindness in his eyes.

"SUPERMAN"    2025     PG-13      2 hours, 9 mins

Movie #3501 ........................."The Groomsmen: Last Dance" (Hallmark)

Movie #3501 "The Groomsmen:  Last Dance" (Hallmark)  Well, I had to finish the trilogy, right?  Plus , this was Tyler Hynes' film, so should be the best?  not really, but because of the script, not him.  Anyway, there was a bit too much angst in this one -- stage business was full of just awkward meet ups, but there was one intriguing one in a big dance...... thus, the title.  I'd give it a 4.  Okay finish, but nothing really special.  Sorry , guys!

"THE GROOMSMEN:  LAST DANCE"      Hallmark        2024    1 hr and 24 mins    G-rating

Movie #3500 ........................."Haunted Wedding" (Hallmark)

Movie #3500 "Haunted Wedding" (Hallmark)  I found this quite amusing because the stage business in this film was talking to ghosts, like the t.v. show, and I found that very funny.  The two leads were earnest, and this time the conflict wasn't between the two of them, but them and the other world.  I liked that dare- to -be- different- road taken in this one.  I'd give it a 4.

"HAUNTED WEDDING"        Hallmark     2024    1 hour and 24 mins

The wedding between ghosts hunters Jane and Brian at a haunted inn is disrupted by Angelique, a ghost who mistakes Brian for her own dead fiancé.

Movies #3499 ........................."Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale" (theatre)

Movie #3499 "DownAbbey  The Grand Finale" (theatre)  I loved this from beginning (recap) to the very end (a nostalgic look back  with film footage from all those years of watching ) Disclaimer:  I am a big fan, so I was watching it from that POV --- I have no idea if you never watched any of the shows , and just came in blindly to watch this film.  I should think you wouldn't get much, because of all the baggage that came along through the years.  Anyway, the opening music is way different from the usual opening for this show, and I didn't like it at first, but then I realized while watching the film that CHANGE was the main theme, and so I saw it as setting the tone nicely from the get-go.  Change is inevitable and there are some sad, negative elements of it that are brought out in the film (Maggie is gone now, the house itself is due for a lot of work - leadership change, and downstairs crew is getting older and changing out) but change can lead to so many doors opening in the future --- hope, which is what we could use in this horrible political climate.  From the beginning there's a nice, but very very quick recap to remind us where we left all the members of the family --- names go by quickly and we have to remember them.  I wish they would have set the scene a tad more slowly as to where we were and the immediate conflict - because I kept getting the major house (Downton Abbey, which I don't remember them ever calling it that through the whole film) mixed up with their property in London (The Grantham London estate)   - and then throw in discussions of Maggie Smith's place and well, houses can be confusing. And going from one place to another divides the downstairs (wait staff) quite a bit, too.   Example of confusion - Mary and Sis walking in London street, and a woman comes by and asks them how Bertie and Henry are --- I gulp  because I am trying to place those names, when the writer woman could have said, your husbands, Bertie and Henry.  Help us out, Henry (Matthew Goode) was hardly in the previous movies..... and wasn't going to show up at all in this one due to schedule conflict and a knee operation.  But it was a good thing he didn't because his absence afford an excellent conflict for Mary through the entire finale movie.  Another example of confusion was with Sibby --- when Tom arrives we hardly see the woman he is with --- why not remind us if he is with Sibby, his daughter or his new wife.... just a little help.  I need to stop before I say too much about the plot, but I want to give a resounding A+ to the very ending --- to me, the whole show was about the relationship between the Upstairs people and the Downstairs staff, and there were very few times that they shared screen time all together having a great time --- and they preserved that for us at the end in this finale.  A nice neat bow wrapped around a very entertaining film.  I'd give this a 4.5 out of 5.   And highly recommend it!

"DOWNTON ABBEY:  THE GRAND FINALE"       theatre     2025      PG      2 hours, 3 mins

When Mary finds herself in a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the household grapples with the threat of social disgrace.  The Crawleys must embrace change with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.

Movie #3498 ........................." The Groomsmen: Second Chance" (Hallmark)

Movie #3498 "The Groomsmen:  Second Chance" (Hallmark)    What the heck -- I saw the first one, I might as well finish the trilogy, right?  This time, Danny, the gay guy of the 3, ends up planning his bet friend's wedding in Greece, but , no spoilers here after first 20 minutes, he wishes HE were marrying his best friend.  This was lame with all the wedding preparations except for the drop dead views of Santorini, where the wedding is being planned (and where we went to recently, so we could enjoy it again without being there) Therefore, once they move the film to Greece in the last hour, I found it much better.  And the ending itself ended p to be very emotional and heartfelt.  I feel this film went farther into a gay relationship than any other Hallmark I have seen on the subject --- for these reasons, the film moved from the 3 area to a 4 one for me.

"THE GROOSMEN:  SECOND CHANCE"       Hallmark2024     1 hour and 24 mins

Danny finds the courage to admit his romantic feelings for his bet friend when he is asked to be the best man at his wedding in Greece.

Director:  Ron Oliver

Movie #3497 ........................."Thursday Murder Club" (Netflix)

Movie #3497 "Thursday Murder  Club" (Netflix)   This movie proves if you cut out a few characters and suspects, trim the fat and change one of the characters a bit, voila!  A better story can result from the book, which I read recently when I found out Pierce Brosnan was going to be one of the main characters in it.  This was much funnier than the book and less convoluted.  In the book, there were several deaths to deal with (my complaint after reading the book ---- too down of subject matter in a home for seniors.)  They actually added more for the four main actors to do, and had  much less of Donna and her boss  (the cops) covered in the show --- not a good time to show characters in law and order business that aren't better detectives than 4 senior citizens.  Good choice.  I would give this a strong 4 and recommend it, esp. if you like any of the 4 leads.  (stunning UK actors)

"THURSDAY MURDER CLUB"  (Netflix)  2025     PG-13     1 hr and 58 mins

Four irrepressible retirees spend their time solving cold case murders for fun, but their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.

Movie #3496 ........................."The Groomsmen: First Look" (Hallmark)

Movie #3496 "The Groomsmen:  First Look"  (Hallmark)   how could I not watch this one with one of my favorite Hallmark guys (Tyler Hynes) in it, well, for a short time .  This was the male answer to the Wedding Veil Legacy (the female version last year).  The girl is strong is this one and so are the three guys.  But to be honest, they come across as goofballs when put together, so good thing they only come together  couple of times.  The focus is on the one guy, who is a doctor, who falls in love with another doctor -- and the conflict is?  you guessed it:  how can a relationship work out when both are way too busy to develop one?  Well, with the guys' help, they manage to get to a wedding by the ending of the show.  3.8 out of 5 for this one, not a lot new here, just a typical long distance relationship is studied.  That is usually a conflict used for short amount of time, but it is used through the whole film.  ;That, pushy friends and mothers, and it is  wonder they get to the end in one piece --- but that was in the Hallmark contract.

"THE GROOMSMEN:  FIRST LOOK"     Hallmark    2024    1 hr and 22 mins

A pediatrician and an overseas doctor, meet at a wedding in Philadelphia, but the long distance, family and their friends may hinder their budding romance.

Director:  Ron Oliver

Movie #3495 ........................."The Residence" (netflix, season 1, 8 episodes)

Movie #3495 "The Residence" (Netflix, season 1, 8 episodes)  It took me a long time to warm uo to this one --- actually, about 4 episodes, because they seemed long and drawn out, but the last 4 episodes were good once you get into the rhythm of the show.  As of now, there won't be a season 2, because it seems a complete movie, when all put together.  I am still not a huge fan of 8 episodes or longer stuff --- why not make it into one concise movie -- yes, this has quite a few characters to deal with, but does each have to have so many minutes to investigate?  The saving grace of this show, to me, is the lead detective, who happens to be a bird fancier, which is funny in itself.  I really wholeheartedly recommend this show, but be aware the first couple of episodes will be challenging to many.  I'd give it a 4 out of 5.  P.S.  incidentally, the residence, where the murder has been committed, is the White House.  It gives a good idea just how many people work in a place that important.

"THE RESIDENCE"                Netflix          2025           50 min. each episode, 8 episodes

Inside the White House's staff residence and the lives workers share with the First Family.

Creator :  Paul William Davies

Actors:  Uzo Aduba, Giancarlo Esposito, Molly Griggs

Movie #3494 ........................."The Frisco Kid" (Amazon Prime)

Movie #3494 "The Frisco Kid" (Amazon Prime)  After watching a documentary on Gene Wilder, we decided to watch some of his films we had never seen , and this one seemed obvious to see because he was paired with a young Harrison Ford.  But we were very disappointed -- it seemed a one-joke movie, and even though Ford and Wilder worked well together, they couldn't make the clunky story and script they had to work with.  The story was pretty stagnant through most of the film.  I'd give it a 3 out of 5 and don't bother recommendation, even though I am a big fan of both actors.

"THE FRISCO KID"          Amazon Prime        1979       PG     1 hour and 59 mins

Movie #3493 ........................"The Studio" (Apple)Season 1

Moie #3493 "The Studio" (Apple) Season 1:    This shows truly the hectic way (that I think is somewhat true) that shows and movies are put together in the entertainment industry.... lots of fast talking, screaming (like the "Bear" for long periods of time).  It took a while to get used to the rapid patter of interrupting dialogue this show offers, but there were a few really really good , funny comic moments --- but I'm not sure I would recommend it --- pretty foulmouth, mean-spiritedness abounds.  (the two episodes that were esp good to me were the casting (episode 7)  of the kool aid kid  and the golden globe show (episode 8).  I think this show is an acquired taste --- if you are willing to put up  with some industry shenanigans  and narcissistic characters, you might like it.  For me?  not sure if I need to see a second season.  (warning:  last two episodes are way over-the-top to me)  3.5 out of 5

Movie #3492........................"Freakier Friday" (theatre)

Movie #3492 "Freakier Friday" (theatre)  I saw this a while ago and  thought I had written a blog, but I can't seem to find it, so here goes.  We really enjoyed this sequel, even though the first one wasn't memorable really to us at all.  I think I liked it because it is funnier than the first one (from what I recall).  There was a lot more subterfuge because 4 people exchanged characters --- the daughter becomes the mom and the mom becomes the daughter --- so that's fun to watch (as it was in the first one) the actors mimic their counterpart --- and this can get pretty mean because we are dealing with an older mom now with her young daughter in high school --- and we know how that can be in those h.s. years.  Both Lindsay Lohan and the young girl from "American Housewife" (Julia Butters)  are excellent in those roles.  But then you have Jamie Lee Curtis, always fun to watch, play a young teenager - her granddaughter's soon -to-be- stepsister , and that girl playing the  grandmother.....confused?  well,  watching it gets confusing.  I had to constantly remind myself who was talking to whom, according to what they were saying (not their looks!)  Dave washed his hands of it and said it was too difficult to follow --- so many of you might react the same way --- this film you really need to concentrate somewhat on what is going on --- esp. when it goes fast, which is does many times.  However, it was cool to see the two soon-to-be- stepsisters who have hated each other in the school bond (in different bodies --- and it ended up  to be Lindsay Lohan (as the daughter) and Jamie Lee Curtis (as the step sister ) --- together again, (like in the first movie) and that's when it gets good because those two work so well together --- I'm sure the movie set up that particular swap on purpose so we'd see them together again.  The only complaint is the switch back to normal --- missed what was happening..... some hocus hocus about "two hearts become one" which meant two hearts of mom and daughter, I guess.... and voila, they change --- dumb! however the denouement worked out really well --- nice closure.   Good movie -- I needed to see something like this to laugh at and enjoy  while we are experiencing so much nastiness to human beings we share the planet with during these times!     I'd give this a 4.5 out of 5 and highly recommend it for fun and silliness.  And lots of female leads in this one --- a mother/daughter, friend/friend story, for sure!

Movie #3491 ........................."The Man with the Golden Arm" (TCM)

Movie #3491 "The Man with the Golden Arm" (TCM) I have wanted to watch this for a long time -- heard a lot about this Frank Sinatra/Otto Preminger film, and I'm glad I watched it.  The obviously manufactured set and drops used to set the story in a busy city with lots of drug stuff around, dates the movie, but boy it gets down and dirty when it comes to show the effects of "using."  In fact, the Hayes Production would not clear this film when it first came out, so Preminger sent it out any way, with no Production okay (Hays went out of business shortly after)  Sinatra was nominated for an Oscar for this (eventually won one for "From Here to Eternity"), and I thought he was pretty good (esp. in the scenes toward the end, but I felt the two women were even better --- Kim Novak and nice dance hall woman he is friends with, and Eleanor Parker, his wheel-chair bound wife (the story reveals he feels guilty and stays with her to care for her because he put her in there - car accident?)  Film is brutal, clunky in parts, good acting, and great music (another Oscar nod) and very raw on the subject of drugs and drug dealing.  Eye opening.  I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

"THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM"     1955      1 hour and 59 mins  (on prime video, TCM(

Movie #3490 ........................."The Lost Valentine" (Hallmark)

Movie #3490 "The Lost Valentine" (Hallmark)  This is a Jennifer Love Hewitt production  with Betty White at her best, I think.  This is a great story, a tearjerker , coming out of WWII.  Hewitt plays a journalist searching for a story and think she finds one in this grandma, who visits a train terminal every Valentine's Day since her husband was labelled "missing" in the war --- she waits for him to come home.  This truly is a 66 year-old love story long waiting to be told.  It brought me to tears at the end.  I give it 4.5 out of 5.

"THE LOST VALENTINE"         2011     1 hour and 27 mins   Hallmark

Lucan Thomas's grandmother Caroline returns every Valentine's Day to the station where, at their first wedding anniversary, she waved off to the Pacific Theater of War in 1944 her husband Neill, a US navy pilot who is still officially missing in action.  Lucas, a former baseball star and reputable physiotherapist about to publish, tells the story to a station manager who assigns the item to Susan Allison.  She gets involved and befriends Caroline, but resists her crush on Lucas on account of an already soulless engagement with international reporter Andrew Hawthorne.   Caroline's mild cardiac crisis seems to run everything.

Writers:  James Michael Pratt, Maryann Ridini Spencer, Barton Taney

Actors:  Jennifer Love Hewitt, Betty White, Sean Faris

Movie# 3489 ........................."The Real West" (Hallmark)

Movie #3489 "The Real West" (Hallmark) Kim, one of my favorite Hallmark women, did a great job with this one because I wouldn't have stuck with it, otherwise.  Besides Kim, this one seemed a bit different for Hallmark, because it all took place on a ranch, and it made it feel like the audience was being introduced to a stay there (I wouldn't want to do all the stage business they did, but they made it look like fun!)  And the guy running the activities was from "Desperate Housewives" and was good to look at (James Denton).

"THE REAL WEST"      Hallmark   2024    1 hour and 24 mins.

A family vacation to a working ranch introduces Professor Rebecca to Jake West.  Rebecca is a widow chasing tenure and Jake is a handsome cowboy who never settled down.

Director:  Terry Ingram

Actors:  Kimberley Sustad, Lucas Bryant Marlie Collins

Movie #3488 ........................."The Last Rifleman" (Prime Video/tubi)

Movie #3488 "The Last Rifleman" (Prime Video/tubi)  Pierce  Brosnan, one of my favorite actors, is very very quiet in this one -- he doesn't say much, and what he comes out is stilted (due to age he is playing?)  There was some war violence involved in his back story so that made this a tough story to watch.  I'd give it 3.8 out of 5 --- a quiet (for the most part) war story (with PTSD).

" THE LAST RIFLEMAN"         prime video/tubi    PG-13   1 hour 35 mins     2023

A WWII veteran escapes his care home in Northern Ireland and embarks on an arduous but inspirational journey to France to attend the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, finding the courage to face the ghosts of his past.

Actors:  Pierce Brosnan, Clemence Poesy, JohnAmos

Movie #3487 ........................."A wish Come True" (Hallmark)

Movie #3487 "A wish come True" (Hallmark)   Cute couple, nice storyline with interesting stage business --- not your usual.  Of course, the story is in the subgenera of Love could be in your own backyard (or your best friend), but there's some fantasy involved here that gives it a twisty turn of events.  I'd give it 4.5 out of 5.

"A WISH COME TRUE"      Hallmark     2015   1 hour and 25 mins

On the night of her 30th birthday, Lindsay Corwin, an unlucky environmentalist with a string of bad relationships, decides to make the ultimate wish:  for all 0of her birthday wishes to come true.

Movie #3486 ........................".Finding Love in Mountain View" (Innamorarsi a Mountain View" ) (Hallmark)

Movie #3486  "Finding Love in Mountain View: (Hallmark) acting was weak in this one, but story was good.  The kids had to be extra strong in this one, and they were.  They lost their folks and the movie is about bonding with their cousin (whom they didn't know).  I'd give it 3.8 out of 8 -- I have seen this story line before, so it was just okay --- and the woman was really standoffish, so the audience could understand how the kids wouldn't warm up to her right away.  (The movie "Raising Helen" was soooo much better" and basically the same subject).

"FINDING LOVE ON MOUNTAIN VIEW"   Hallmark     1 hour and 29 mins     2020

Movie #3485 .........................I Do, I Do, I Do (Hallmark).

Movie #485 "I Do, I Do, I Do"  (Hallmark)  No, this is not a favorite at all.  And I was surprised because Autumn Reese is one of my favorite Hallmark women, but this was boring and silly.  Once again, it used the groundhog day gimmick -- where she relives her wedding day until she finds it enjoyable.  It was a stupid setup for stage business because she and the her fiancé's brother keep taking walks together.  So how does the relationship grow?  She is reliving it, but what about him?  He never keeps what he learns from one day until the next --- how do they build the relationship?  I'd give it a 2 out of 5.

"I DO, I DO, I DO "     Hallmark     2015    1 hour and 27 minw

Movie #3484 ........................."The Magic of Ordinary Days" (Hallmark)

Movie #3484 "The Magic of Ordinary Days"  (Hallmark)  nice, slow-moving love story that starts with a fixed marriage.  It is basically dealing with the question:  how can you fall in love on an ordinary day.  This woman faces a lot of them in the 1940s.

"THE MAGIC OF ORDINARY DAYS"    1 hour and 38mins      2005

Movie #3483 .........................""Baker's Son" (Hallmark)

Movie #3483 "Baker's Son" (Hallmark)  even though this movie had a Huzzah moment when she suddenly realizes she is in love with said title guy which was dumb, it still won me over.  Elaine is always believable and good, she adds any depth in the film.  The guy is shallow and conceited most of the time, except when he is baking/falling in love with her.  The film is goofy but it tried to be different and the female star is sooo good, so I'd give it 4 out of 5.  There's definitely more focus on her than him in this movie.

"BAKER'S SON"        Hallmark                   1 hour 27 mins            2021

Movie #3482 ........................."Maybe It's You" (Bravo)

Movie @3482 "Maybe It's You" (Bravo) Not a terribly unique idea (in fact, it was covered very well in "When Harry Met Sally") is that best friends get together, but this seems a bit different from the overdone idea because the two actor are more than capable.  Yes,  these two finish each other's sentences and enjoy each other even when they disagree --- which should be a basis for friendship turning in to more than that, but they fight it so hard and for most of movie won't consider it.  That was a tad intriguing --- that the fight was against coming together...... i thought the jokes and situations were either really smart or very silly, but either way, they kept me watching and I would give this a 5.

"MAYBE IT'S YOU"      2 HOURS          2023                   BRAVO

Movie #3481 ........................."Son of a Critch" (Netflix)Season 1

Movie #3481 "Son of a Critch" (Netflix)   Season 1      Did you enjoy the show "Wonder Years" --- well, then you might like this one because it reminded me of the popular series cent3red around young Kevin Arnold.  The one big difference, is that this takes place in Newfoundland --- rather different than a city in the U.S.  with different customs, different food, etc.  But kids are kids.... only this one is not a universal type of kids just trying to fit in......more a very intelligent, nerdy, nonathletic guy trying to fit in --- and he's the product of a very quirky family, all with their own baggage.  This show is a bit more demonstrative, histrionic in its approach to the storytelling, but we still found it enjoyable --  But get used to he accents and get past the first episode or two --- it grows on you.  We finished Season 1 and are well into Season 2 and still find it funny.  Many people will, I'm thinking since it is based around a family with kids.

" SON OF A CRITCH"       Netflix                2022    30 min episodes,    52 episodes, so far

Movie #3480 ........................."Bridal Wave" (hallmark)

Movie #3480 "Bridal Wave" (Hallmark) I really enjoyed this one -- could be because one of my favorite Hallmark men is Andrew Walker , and this is one of his better ones --- allowed to do more humor, than usual. Even though the stage business was , of course, wedding stuff, it was a bit creative, because Andrew was NOT the one she is supposed to marry --- so everything is off kilter.  A good hallmark movie needs to do a lot of that , and this one cooperates with that theme.  I'd recommend it.

"BRIDAL WAVE"          2015        1 hour and 28 minutes      Hallmark

Movie #3479 .........................."Stick" (Season 1, Apple)

Movie #3479 "Stick" (Season 1, Apple)  We weren't terribly involved in this show until around the 3rd episode --- not sure what pulled us in, but the show  started covering more than Owen Wilson  --- golf can be boring, but the show helps us along with the golfing that is shown.  And the two supporting players are very good, esp. the young golfer -- he's fun to watch, very expressive -- his girlfriend is an out-of-the-box kind of person and she's fun, too.  His best friend who goes along has good advice to give out when necessary and he has very little filter on him, so once again, good humored.  Then, the young golfer's mom I have grown to appreciate --- I enjoyed her in Tom Hanks "A Man called Ove" and she's very good here, too.  By the end of the season we were hooked and anxious to see more.  I'd rate it 4.5.

"STICK"  TV SERIES ON APPLE     2025      11 episodes about 35 mins each

Actors:  Owen Wilson, Peter Dager, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer

Movie #3478 ........................."The Seed of the Sacred Fig" (on plane to Peru)

Movie #3478 "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" (on plane to Peru)  I did not like this movie at all --- esp. the second half, when the dad turns against his kids --- the women are terribly mistreated in the film, and I don't feel the need to see films like that -- it turns my stomach.  I know it happens , and I just feel sick after watching films who show all the details.  So I don't recommend this one -- it got recognition at Cannes, but that didn't make me like it any more..  I'd give it a mild 3 and not recommend it.

"THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG"     2024     PG-13     2 hours and 47 mins (it was Looooooong)

Movie #3477 ........................."Amateur" (on plane to Peru)

Movie #3477 "Amateur " (on plane to Peru)  This film was a huge disappointment --- the trailer suggested it would be more of a thinkpiece --- that he was a smart guy with technology.  It was just all action and very little left of a story --- I watched it because I am a Malek and Rachel Brosnahan fan, but neither kept my interest in this film.  I'd give it a 3 --- mildly entertaining.  I can't really comment any more because it was hard to stay awake watching this.

"THE AMATEUR"       PG-13              2025       2 hours and 2 min

Movie #3476 ........................." The Friend" (plane to Peru)

Movie #3476  " The Friend" (plane to Peru) I was looking forward to seeing this because the trailer looked good --- and it was even better than I thought because I would give it a 5.  Bill Murray is hardly in it, but his one or two scenes are necessary and very poignant.  It's Naomi Watts' film all the way --- well, she shares a lot of screen time with a very good acting colleague -- a dog!  And he doesn't die in the film (that's for all my dog loving friends who refuse to see a movie where a dog dies.  Anyway, the film is about friendship, what's a true friend, how dogs can be true friends of mankind, and much more.  I highly recommend it and give it a 5.  It can be streamed on prime video.

"THE FRIEND"     2024       R     1 hour and 59 minutes

Movie #3475 ........................."Good American Family" (Hulu)

Movie #3475 "Good American Family" (Hulu)  This show was like watching an accident overall, but there were some good moments (in the last episode the discussion between the foster dad and Natalia -- but it probably never happened in real life)  There was some bad acting in this - esp. in the opening episodes -- everyone acted awkwardly  in their roles, I felt, esp. Pompeo --- I never bought anything she said, she seemed so fake.  And Duplas was up and down with this character --- is the dad  really like that in real life?   If we watched all the episodes, we still weren't sure of Natalia's accusations that she was hit by the mom because we never saw it.... There was so much lying on both sides, it was hard to see through all the fog hiding the truth.  Here's my take on the thing --- this wasn't a show that cleared up many of the questions we might have had if we watched this tragedy in the t.v. news But it did show how misguided some people are, like this woman, who says she can help all disabled children, and failed when she had one in her house and was too full of herself to ask for help to make that child's life better --- it's good to know that Natalia finally found a family who knew how to help her, instead of just going through the motions.  (and lie to get rid of her )  I'd give this 3.5.

"GOOD AMERICAN FAMILY"     8 episodes, 50 minutes each       2025

A Midwestern couple who adopts what they believe is little with dwarfism.  As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, falling into a battle fought in the tabloids, the courtroom and ultimately their marriage.

Movie #3474 ........................."Somebody Somewhere, " Season 3 (Max)

Movie #3474 "Somebody Somewhere, Season 3 (Max) This show has consistently been a well done show, full of terrific actors who make the dialogue so darn real --- you have to see it to appreciate it, because you would swear they aren't following a script.  The story has small highs and lows, mostly because it flows like life --- the show follows the main woman, who has been in grief since she lost her favored sister  --- she and her other sister try to mend ways, while she searches for her niche in life --- she has a best friend, who is gay, and in the second season he meets a new love interest, and that affects her because she feels more alone --- Season 3 finishes that story off, and in fact, the show has ended.  There's an on-line petition  by fans that it will continue, but it doesn't look good right now.  The actors evidently want to continue but it's a tough thing to put together for everyone.  This show really got better and better through the seasons, and it went out with a bang -- we were very impressed with this show and also hope that it continues.  We give this season a 4.5 out of 5.

"SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE"  (SEASON 3)    Max  2022-2024      7 episodes, 30 minutes each

Creators:  Hannah Box, Paul Thureen

Actors:  Bridget Everett, Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison

Movie # 3473 ........................." The Secret Ingredient" (Hallmark)

Movie #3473 "The Secret Ingredient" (Hallmark) Usually the stage business gets a bit boring in these Hallmark movies, but this one had good stage business, I thought.  There was a bake off -- and two of the contestants don't know that each other is in the contest.  The conflict of course occurs when they find out they are competing against each other.  The two actors never have that much chemistry, but like I said, it was fun to watch the contest.  I'd give it 3.5 --- not a must watch, but some entertainment involved.

"THE SECRET INGREDIENT"      Hallmark     2020       1 hour and 22 minutes

Movie #3472 ........................."Thelma" (Hulu)

Movie #3472 "Thelma" (Hulu)  This was really funny --- I esp. liked the relationship between grandmother and grandson when he tried to help her manage her way through using the computer -- The film centers on her journey to seek revenge on some scammers -- June Squibb is 90+ years old, and she's quite impressive, esp. learning all the lines she had to do, since she was the main actress in the film.  I'd give it a 4 --- her daughter and hubby are funny, too .

"THELMA"      HuluPG-13     2024     1 hour and 38 mins

Movie #3471 ........................."Life of Chuck" (theatre)

Movie #3471 "Life of Chuck" (theatre)   This was a very feel good movie, and we haven't had one of those in a long long time.  I'm not sure how to describe it, but I will try, because it is also very creative and out of the box.  There are 3 acts, and the film starts with Act III.  And the only reason I wouldn't give this a 5 is that I'm not sure how Act III fits with the other two --- except to say that they had this idea to tell the story backwards, like Benjamin Button, so they start with Chuck gone, leaving behind just billboards that thank him for his great life, but those are only glimpses in the future world that looks like an Armageddon --- a classroom of h.s. kids get amber alerts of a catastrophe that knocks out grids and cripples main cities in our world.  And we watch how people aimlessly walk around not knowing what to do --- a real downer!  But then Act II and Act I follow Chuck when he is an accountant stopping to dance on his way to work --- and that is the best 15 minutes of film that I have seen for a long long time --- it is so exhilarating that I got goosebumps and a big smile on my face as I watched it --- very little dialogue here as he takes a partner from the crowd,  and  they dance accompanied by  one very talented drummer for this short dance escapade.  Then Act I shows Chuck as a teenager (Jacob Tremblay from "Wonder" plays Chuck in this part) and a little boy who is so good---I'm sure we will see him in other films to come.  He plays Chuck as a child and we find the tie in between the two acts as the art of dance.  I loved it and would give it 4.5.   It certainly shows the worth of living in the moment, and of everyone on this planet, no matter who he/she is.   (and of course how joyful and fulfilling dance can be)

"THE LIFE OF CHUCK"      2024     1 hour and 51 minutes     R (not sure why except for doom/gloom in Act III?)

A life-affirming, genre-bending story about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz.

Director:  Mike Flanagan

Writers:  Mike Flanagan, Stephen King (and no, it isn't one of those horror films, and remember King brought us "Shawshank Redemption" and "Stand By Me")

Actors:  Tom Hiddleston, Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak (remember this kid's name - he's the best!)

Movie #3470 ........................."Elio" (in theatre)

Movie #3470  "Elio" (in theatre)  I usually look forward to seeing pixar and Disney films -- but this was quite the disappointment.  It was, well, boring.   The story was dragged out, the characters were not interesting and shallow  to me, not funny,  and even the animation wasn't that good ---it was too macho for me, too ---  the lead woman's voice (Zoe Saldana) was good, but that was it --- I don't recommend it and give it a 3.

"ELIO"     Disney/Pixar  2025     PG      1 hour and 38 minutes (too long --- dragged out ending)

Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.

Directors:  Adrian Molina, Domee Shi, Madeline Sharafian

Writers:  Julia Cho, Mark Hamer, Mke Jones

Actors:  Honas Kibreab, Zoe Saldana, Remy Edgerly

Movie #3469 ........................."After All These Years" (Hallmark)

Movie #3469 "After All These Years" (Hallmark)  Another winner originally from Hallmark back in the day --- a really good, quirky murder mystery with Wendie Malick in the lead -- her husband gets killed and of course the police figure she is the number one possibility for the murderer --- she leaves immediately to go under cover to find out who did it --- she's very funny in her investigating.  I'd give it a 4.5 -- funny and a good mystery --- myriad of quirky people as suspect, too.

"AFTER ALL THESE YEARS"    2013      1 hour and 27 minutes

Director:  Scott Smith

Writers:  Susan Isaacs, Jon Maas

Movie #3468 ........................."Follow the Stars Home" (Hallmark)

Movie #3468 "Follow the Stars Home" (Hallmark)  What a find this was --- a really good film on raising a disabled child and how that can affect a marital couple who find out before the birth of the baby that she will have defects (and probably won't live past 6 years old) and how they disagree about what to do about it.  Very emotional, for sure, and the actors aren't your typical Hallmark people --- They include the bride from Steve Martin's "Father of the Bride" along with two well accomplished  men, Blair Brown as the grandmother, and two very competent little girls, one (Alexa Vega) who has now moved from child star to adult starring in a Hallmark mystery series with her husband.   It's a tough watch but so worth it, and it gets a 5, highly recommend, from me.  See if you can find it.

Movie #3467 ........................."Three Weeks, 3 kids" (Hallmark)

Movie #3467 "Three Weeks, Three Kids"   (Hallmark)  Chomsky (from "My Girl" as a child star) plays this role of an aunt pretty well --- the guy across the street she starts to build a relationship with as she babysits her nieces and nephew, is fun to watch, too.  And the kids do well --- the everyday problems are believable and lessons are learned --- I found this a fun watch and would give it 4.5.

"THREE WEEKS, THREE KIDS"      2011     1 hr and 27 mins.     Hallmark

25-year-old Jennifer Mills lives her life without commitment, relieved that her boyfriend isn't even close to putting a ring on her finger.   Nothing like her older sister Mandy , who married young and settled into family life.  Jennifer loves being carefree, but her mother sees Jennifer's wild ways as a fear of settling down, and hatches a secret plan to take her from playful to parent in just three weeks.  When Mandy and her husband plan a three-week European vacation without their three kids, Kathryn convinces Jennifer to help watch them until she can get into town.  Jennifer quickly finds out that playing house isn't for kids, and realizes that she must go from cool aunt to strict parent to keep her sister's trust.  But with a little help from Will, the handsome new neighbor across the street, she manages to pull it together to prove to everyone, even herself, that taking responsibility can be rewarding.  (what a surprise, huh:)

Movie #3466 ........................."Villa Amore" (Hallmark)

Movie #3466 "Villa Amore" (Hallmark)  Well, we've learned there are all kinds of scams about buying villas in European countries for 1 euro , and then the buyers finding out they have to refurbish it in so many days, and the amount of high taxes, and rules and paperwork they have to go through  -- all of this taught to us through Hallmark films, and this is still another one --- basically goes through the same situation, as the others, but it is liable because of the lead girl and guy being very capable and having some chemistry between the two of them.  Also, the people in the town we get to know moreso in this one and they are quirky and fun to watch (esp. the postal lady).  I really did love the story, the people and the environment and I would highly recommend this one -- however, it does make fixing up a place like this look way too easy.... but I enjoyed watching it.  a 5 out of 5.

"VILLA AMORE"   Hallmark       2025     1 hour and 24 mins

Movie #3465 .........................""Back When We Were Grownups" (Hallmark)

Movie #3465 "Back When We Were Grownups" (Hallmark) Not your typical Hallmark film with young , good looking stars --- this one follows Blythe Danner and her family she has helped to build, and it covers a subject that isn't covered very often --- what happens when you marry a widower with 3 children, and all of a sudden you are their mother --- and how does that relationship start, build and withstand all of them through their own adulthood and your own old age?  It's based on an Anne Tyler book I had read and enjoyed (and recommend), but the movie seemed pretty much all doom and gloom --- Tyler has a way of presenting people in real life situations very well --- don't expect a huge action movie based on her books, but just real life situations and discussions --- these were okay, but it seemed the choices the screenwriter chose to use were more doom than inspiring --- that is until the very last scene --- it made the film worthwhile for me to have watched.  Nicely done, and a reminder of just how good Danner is.  I'd give it a 4 and say it is worth a look see .P.S.  Fonda is very good here playing a very measured person who wants things the same every day  --- never going out of the box life can put us in.
