Movie #3242 "Mrs. Doubtfire" (Amazon Prime) I just saw the play in Chicago and wanted to compare it to the movie. The play changes just a little, but it is a nice version of the film. Still, the film is better, and it even reaches classic status in my mind because it is so well done --- with everyone, Robin Williams, of course, his brother Harvey Fierstein, his wife Sally Field, and those three little kids. The play had an amazing Doug McClure in the lead, but the rest were just okay. What is missing from the movie is that camera isn't close up to get the pouting of the little girl or all of her smiles that make her endearing to us. I also missed Sally Field who did an outstanding job as the mother in the film. But what I was most happy about the play is that it didn't change the ending -- this movie is first of its kind in truthfully studying what sacrifices parents need to do to arrange a "good" divorce, if there ever is one. The last few minutes of this film is such a great message to kids and adults about the topic of "divorce," and I recommend another viewing of that if you are in need of a useful message on that topic. This is one of my favorite movies, and I am so glad i revisited it. a 5!
